Looking to see if anyone is shooting 117 grain or 120 grain bullets in a 25-06. If so, what if any difference have you seen hunting with them? What kind of drop do you have at 200 yrds?

| You can sight in at 100, and still make neck shots at 200 if you are good enough, I am not that good, Although my25/06 is my go to gun here in south texas, out of state I use my 300 win mag or 7mm Ultra mag by the way all of my rifles are more capable than shooting better than I can, I also shoot 117 grain Hornady, If you sight in about 1 1/2" high with that you should be dead on at 200yards. I shoot 120grain HPBT game king sierras. They seem to work well. Here is a ballistics chart that may help you. If you mean bullet drop refer to chart. If you mean dropping the deer... They work fine out to four hundred, just my opinion.

I shoot Winchester "Super X" Positive Expanding Point bullets in a 120gr. Recently I dropped a 200lb boar on the spot at 100yds as well as an 8pt on the spot at 100yds. Neither one took a step. Hog was shot behind the ear, deer behind the shoulder. My bullet drops about 12"-13" at 300 yds and I believe its somewhere around 5" at 200 yds. I have mine sighted in dead on at 100yds. I agree with Big Pig...I read a ballistics chart and if you sight in 1.5" high at 100 yds you should be dead on at 200yds. Its a very flat gun and can still take down a deer at 300yds.
My dad shoots 117grain Nosler Pertitions made by Federal. They are even flatter and faster and the Nosler Pertitions penetrate VERY well. Perfect for shooting thick-skinned hogs. Nosler Pertitions for any caliber are usually faster than other bullets in the same grain.
You can google ballistic charts and get some results...thats what I did a while back. _________________ "There she is! Fish on..."

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet Donnie. I should be able to get to the range this weekend.. Thanks for all the info. guys. I have looked at the ballistics on several different grains and types but was looking for info. from someone thats has used them in the field. I have heard alot of good about the 117 grain but was curious about the 120.. Thanks again..

google the ballistics for the bullet and mfg.. each is little different..
as for pigs.. know your kill zone since it is very small in relationship the animal size especially if you compare it to a deer. _________________ Fish and Hunt Baby.... so tight lines and clear scopes. |
