| Does anyone know if tarpon is edible? Because TPWD changed the bag limit to one over 80". And also one black drum limit to 1 over 52". Now who would want to keep a black drum over 52" for any reason. |

| The new limits are likely there to allow anyone that catches a potential state record. This would allow them to keep and weigh the fish. |

As far as I know they are not edible. My hubby Tarpon_Tamer says they are all muscle. SO even if you could, I dont know that you would "want" to. But I have never ever heard of anyone actually keeping one and eating it. However, if you were to catch one over 80" it would be considered a "trophy fish". SO, in that instance, the only reason you would want to keep it would be to have it mounted. The only reason someone would want to keep a drum over 52" would be for the same reason, to have it mounted; not to eat it. But, I have never actually heard of someone having one mounted. I am sure if I am wrong, a more experienced fisherman will let you know. Hope that helps. _________________ wishn i was fishn...at the beach! <*)}}}>< |

Never heard of anyone mounting a black drum. They dont call them big uglies for nothing!
Tarpon is very squishy, mushy, oily meat, not good to eat
If you ever get a hankering to try one, catch a lady fish (skipjack) and cook it up. I understand they are very comparable. _________________ GOBZA!!!

| I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DON'T USE THE TARPON TO MAKE THE MOUNT BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PERSERVE THE SKIN...NOT LIKE THEY DO FOR DEER.... SO THEY MAKE A PAINTED REPLICA... THE ONLY REASON YOU WOULD NEED A TARPON OVER THE 80 in.. WOULD BE FOR STATE OR WORLD RECORD... THE SAME FOR THE BLACK DRUM OVER 52 in.. |
