I am heading down to CC/Port A tomorrow afternoon for some shark fishing. I am lookin to buy a Jack fish or something similar for a big bait set up. The last 5 trips I have soaked sting ray the whole time and havent got a single pick-up so I wanna try something different.
Let me know if you may know of any possible places to get a big bait.
Thanks guys! |

You can buy bait in Houston from the local seafood markets. We buy Bonita by the case3-5 pounder's. do a search on line.
Hit the party boats in Port A when they come in.
I have bait in Dallas you can have if you can do a drive by 15 bonita and 2 chunck Jack. ( for a six pack.)

Dang, I wish Dallas was not so far away bc i would surely take you up on that offer Hoggeman!
Bluffer-
Ya your right about the quick action with the whiting! I will definetly have some of them soaking on my smaller rigs. Though, I am looking to run out a couple of double hook rigs on the 12/0's with something larger in the crosshairs.
Thanks |

Fish w/ skipjack this weekend. Most of the sharks caught recently have been on fresh skipper. Tons of them in the surf right now. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

From what I gathered big baits did not produce at Sharkathon. We deployed cownose, southerns, sheepies, and two large jacks all untouched. It seems most were caught on smaller fresh baits. I heard several reports from people hitting the bait balls in the yak that the water was red form all of the bait getting hammered and my guess is the sharks are picking up the pieces. I was out wednesday and it was the same thing bait getting smashed all over. I just wish I had thought about it during Sharkathon. Whith the front moving in I'll be targeting reds this weekend. Good luck.

we had out some big baits all weekend, didn't turn a click....fresh small chuncks rigged on mono leaders was the ticket...
if you are using mono, run a circle hook to help prevent a bite off...
i know what you are targeting, maybe with less people on the beach right now, the big momma may just be out there looking for the larger jack pieces.
good luck! _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

Thanks for all the info fellas. I will hit up the DSH and Fishermans Wharf when I get down there.
Sounds like skipjack will be bait of choice if I can catch some.
About to head out

I lost a money fish last weekend at the 29MM stripped 600-700 yards of 100# Big Game in about 50 seconds using a Jackfish tail on a 14OT. Money left on the table for 10 ft +. I have my own opportunities with tackle failure three years ago with a broken shark hook and now sticky drag washers causing the line to break.
Big baits big Fish. In the old days we used to call a 6ft shark a bait shark and drop it off a rig with hooks in it. A bait can't be to big!!!
LOL
