Was going to go out yesterday morning, but after checking the radar at 5:00 am decided to stay home and do some chores. Kind of regretted that decision after seeing what a nice morning it turned out to be.
Got up this morning at the same time and loaded up the gear. Got to my destination at 6:00 - the water was up and the wind blowing a bit out of the west. No sign of feeding activity anywhere. Took off for my fishing spot and fished along a drop off for a while with no luck at all. Moved up onto some grassy flats with sand pockets and found fish. First up was a 19 inch trout followed by a 22 inch red. Next fish was a 31 inch red that I was tempted to use my tag on, but CPR'd it instead.
The wind started to move around to the North a bit and the action really picked up. Strung up another Red about 25 inches and almost right away
hooked into something that I was not sure what it was until it started to shake her head. Turned out to be the biggest trout I have caught in quite some time. Decided to keep her - Ceviche time again. Lost another yellow mouth no quite as big as the last. Shook the hook about 12 feet from the yak...figured she went about 27. Not long after that I filled out my string with a nice 27 inch Red. One thing about the Reds today...they were in fine fighting form...hit hard and fast and fought like they were some bigger than they were. I never get tired of hearing the line scream off the reel. Well with five fish on the stringer and it being only 9:30 am decided to call it and get home early.
The two big 'uns
The 'Haul'
Showing off
Showing off again
Not bad for a few hours on the water.
Oh yeah....the big trout went 29 1/4. Tail was a little ragged too. _________________ WORK TO LIVE, LIVE TO FISH |
