South Texas area, Falls City.

14 inches long, more orange in color than brown, not copperhead, not brown snake, not night snake. Any help? The armor on the head distinguishing and I can't find this guy's ID at all. Thanks for the help. Killed this one because it was on the porch, but wanted to know if they're beneficial and should be left to eat vermin.

I don't know what kind he is but he was not venomous looking at the shape of the head. unless it's a ratter, coral, or cotton mouth and such tey aren't venomous around here.

For anyone who's interested, it's a juvenile coachwhip; harmless. They look nothing like the adults. Got this information from the Snake Farm in New Braunfels. It's dead now, but I'll leave the others alone if they decide to grace me with their presence. Wink

I was thinking coachwhip...I caught on about 4ft long here in the bluff. Venemous snakes have a much larger head than the neck, except for the coral snake he has red and yellow kill ya fellow.
