yeah, conservation is dumb Confused

Not sure what's so stupid about trying to reduce the number of sharks killed by fishing boats.
Thanks for the link Hector. I found the idea interesting.

Let's see, if EVERY marina in the US signs up and enforces this then far less than .2% (2 tenths of 1%) of the shark harvest would be saved. I guess you could say it's a start but I tend to agree that it's p#ssin' in the wind. It is the typical reaction of going after the recreational fishermen and accomplishing virtually nothing. (Sound familiar to you people who fish, or used to fish, PINS????)

Went back and re checked my math. If the world harvest was 100 million, the the amount saved by eliminating all sharks at US marinas would be less that .1% (that's one tenth of one percent).

If someone wants to save the sharks they should probably start over in/and near China were they are killed for nothing but fins.

Actually starting anywhere would be great. Bycatch in gillnets off the mexican coast are significant and populations are down in the Atlantic as well. Dunno what is or is'nt a good plan of action, but conservation of an apex predator is rarely a bad thing.
