Well I was down at bob hall pier on friday and had a blast. I took my dad out there and we were able to limit out on reds and catch a little more after that. It was great fishing for us. I also tried slide lining for the very first time and i must say i am hooked. I got two hook ups fishing between the 2nd and 3rd light and lost what appeared to be a giant king, and then lost a big shark probably in the range of 6 to 7 feet, but the hook didnt set and the first hook up the hook totally bent outward and came out. Whats a good hook to you out there so i wont have this happen again????? any way i had a blast. I will try to post pics later.

5/0-6/0 Owner "gorilla" or "mutu" hook. I use only one hook per slide line leader, more than that is just too much carnival.....and they won't straighten out.

Try loosening your drag. If you have 40 lb test line and 30# class hook you will straighten it out no matter what. Circle hook, straight "j" hook they will all straighten out...Adios

roys sells the slip clips most guys use around here. go in and ask for them. they are the ones with small 1-2oz egg weights on them.

ditto on the owner hooks...try the ones with the welded ring on the eye. For the clips I prefer over 200+ lb wire. won't break loose on heavy surf or missed strikes but still pops loose on a real hit. Saves some time and will keep your clips from sliding down your anchor needlessly. and don't let more that 4-6 oz of clips go down your anchor before pulling them up and recasting or itll be hell to get your anchor up plus the clips can weaken your line down there by your weight....sucks to loose a couple slide clips and your anchor weight cause the line breaks trying to pull it up.
