Looks like we have the beginning of an epidemic. Go stock up on supplies so if an outbreak occurs. Water, can food, mask, Lysol.
It has now been confirmed in CA, TX, all over Mexico, New Zealand, and now confirmed outbreak in NY. With the confirmed cases being at around 1000 or so and 87 confirmed deaths, that means a kill rate of 8.75 %, or about 4 times that of the Spainish Flu outbreak decades ago. Nearly 2 million killed then, and over an estimated 100 million cases and we did not have global travel available then the way we do now. In fact, people rarely left their cities. I read a report that says if we have a pandemic, because of global travel on airlines, and high speed trains (other countries) we could easily see it at a magnitude of 1 billion or more infect. Based on the current death rate to confirmed cases, that is a major problem.
Not saying to panic, or this is the end of the world. Just stock up on supplies, now, before it has a chance to become a pandemic, if it does. Once it does, it will already be too late, the shelf will be clean. |

| It is looking worse all of the time. I have a great Aunt buried just east of the Ferrell Center in Waco who died at age 19 during the 1918 flu epidemic. |

I agree absolutely that the advances in modern travel could very easily add to the problem, but I am pretty sure that we (at least in the US) have made some more amazing advancements in the medical field. People back then rarely left their towns, they also rarely saw the doctor for anything less than a broken bone. Apparently this Flu can be nipped in the bud if it is caught and properly diagnosed quickly enough. Not to say that everyone shouldn't be a little more careful to wash their hands and stay away from people you know are sick, but I personally don't see this wiping out or infecting entire nations. |

Thw WHO is now trying to find out just how easily it is transmitting to determine if it is going to be a mild or severe pandemic. Not whether it will be, but to what extent. It has now been identified in Canada, Israel, Spain and several more countries.
FYI, we got the last box of masks at CVS. This was after 3 oher stops at Walgreens and a stop at Wally World. Water supplies also largely depleted already.
Most people do not even know anything about it yet, but when they all find ouyt tomorrow, things might get a little crazy at the stores.

Also, Shertz ISD has shut down for a full week as well because of the two reported cases here.

Sorry guys that I posted topic twice just concerned. Talked to family in Oklahoma City some cases reported over there already. I just thought the media was blowing it all out of proportion but apperently not. I just feel like there is way more to this then we already know. _________________ When the going gets tough, the tough go fishing... |

I was vacinated for swine flu in 1975 while in the navy....everyone on board was sick I passed out on the way to the chow line and woke up in sickbay. wonder if it is still good ? Avacine should be good forever. I could be a walking antidote. I also work at a place with 5000 other employees ....just 1 person with a fever here and WHAM!!! it will spread like wildfire..... _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
