my wife and I went out to about the 20mm and caught nothing but skipjacks on spoons...well 2 things worth mentioning is the huge shadow (shark) i saw swim by in the first gut (not the wade gut) while i was standing on the first sandbar. I estimate it was at least 6' because it was bigger than me and at first i thought it was a fast cloud passing by with my polarized glasses but realized it was swimming side to side...ping ponging along the gut. The second thing was the dead 5-6' shark someone left laying dead on the beach. We left around 6:30 and at around the 15mm someone cut the jaws out and left the shark laying on the beach. Just seemed like it was a waste of an animal...I feel that whoever cut the jaws out should have at least taken the animal home and disposed of it. Why leave it there in a pool of blood?...just my 2cents...ok..im getting off the soapbox now...i took pics but need to figure out how to post them.

What a waste!!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't TPWD have a law against wasting consumable game or is shark not considered a game species.
A mild honey rub and set the person who did it over a smoldering fire ant nest would seem right to me.
What a waste.

Apparently that shark was found washed up dead - wasn't caught and killed just for the jaws.
Someone probably tried to release it and it didn't make it. Someone drove by, saw it, took the jaws, and left it there.
Granted, a dead shark is a dead shark, most likely died due to a poor release or long fight, but don't give shark fishermen a bad name by accusing them of catching and leaving a shark to rot, less it's jaws. There are enough people out there against shark fishing and surf fishing in general, they don't need any more ammo.
It was probably a tourist or someone who doesn't shark fish who took the jaws out of it. Most shark fisherman wouldn't bother with jaws from a 5-6' blacktip.
Here's a thread from another guy who found it washed up, when it still had it's jaws.

007texas, what were you driving? You must've been just south of me...
BTW, we had bottlenose dolphin working the 1st gut for the better part of the day...likely could've been a dolphin you saw unless you made a clear ID of it. I was yakking baits and saw the same thing - soiled my yak seat only to find out it was flipper

We beached (and released) a 5'5" blacktip, had 5 other hook ups/misses, including one large shark on a 15-20# stingray for bait. Check my report, I posted it on here.
FYI: If you saw us blocking the road, it was only temporary, not all day (I think it may have been you who seemed a little irritated that we blocked the road - deifniltey a 90's model chevy).
We were parked on the dune side of the main lane, about 15yds off of it. We had 2ea. Lifted F350's with large tires come barrelling through there at about 50mph while we were sitting in our chairs right next to our trucks...blew sand all over everything. Then one of them got stuck about 200yds past our camp being stupid trying to do a U-Turn in soft sand at high speed. I realized they were turning around so I pulled my truck right into the middle of the road, perpendicular to the road. His buddy pulled him out, and started heading back towards our camp - quickly...they had to go around us thus preventing a sand-coating on everything.
I moved my truck back up shortly after to allow free means of ingress and egress on the road...but I think you may have been one of the folks who went through on the 'in-between' time. If so, my apologies.
Most everyone on the sand is courteous enough to slow down to the speed limit, usually less, when going through a camp - some people just don't get it.

Oh...i did see that truck stuck in the sand...it was 4x4 too. |

Yup, that platinum edition truck buried itself like an idiot...you should've seen the rooster-tail he was throwing trying to be a badarse and get it out without using 4wd. It amazes me how 'tough' some people think their trucks are...
The sand was actually packed down better on the dune side of our camp - but the dead weed made it bumpy.
I left room for people to go around, and still through the camp - but it would make them slow down. Once those F350's left and passed us headed north, I pulled back up and out of the way. Everyone else was considerate enough to slow down.
lol - definitely wasn't trying to be an azz. I thought to myself "This poor guy in the chevy is going to think I'm intentinoally blocking him. Hope he doesn't plow me!" hehe
I apologize for doing it right when you came through, but those guys had almost gotten their trucks out and were about to head back around. Like I said, it was only temporary - I'm also one of the folks who hate people parking in the middle of the road...so I had to think before I did it.
