Stopping distance on beach / 15 mph verses 25 mph.

We conducted a series of test on the beach to determine the stopping distance at 15 mph verses 25 mph.

Three different tests were performed on wet packed sand within 60 feet of the water. One additional test was taken on loose dry sand 150 feet from the water. All test results were similar in results. The vehicle used for the test was a 1994 Chevrolet suburban 4/4 fully loaded with gear.

After marking a spot in the sand as (0) the test vehicle was driven at 15 mph over the marked line. As soon as the front tire pasted over the mark, the breaks were applied in a manner to stop the vehicle “as fast as possible”. The test was then repeated at a rate of 25 mph.

On average it took 25 feet to stop on sand at a speed of 15 mph, and 39 feet to stop on sand at a speed of 25 mph.

Interestingly, it takes less stopping distance for a vehicle to stop on sand then you might expect. On pavement there is a substantial increase in stopping distance but on sand you actually stop faster. According to the James Madison University “Ratio of speed to stopping distance chart”, the stopping distance on pavement for 15 mph is 33’ and for 25 mph its 74’.

In conclusion, it only takes an extra 14 feet to stop at a speed of 25 mph verses 15 mph on beach sand.

There ya go. Trying to muddy up the water by using logic and even running somewhat scientific testing. You are dealing with the government, remember? Rolling Eyes

That is cool, Charlie but it doesn't even take in account your ability to swerve left or right to avoid said turtle while at the same time slowing down. Smile

Man I am impressed by the data and the pictures, however.......

Since when does Logic apply to Government Bureaucrats?

I believe that his mind was made up before the rule was published. Now he cannot back down without losing face.

I sincerely hope I am wrong, but we are dealing with a government agency.

It all makes sense, except when you're talking to libtards or the government stooges owned by them.

and there has yet to be any live turtle squashings from mansfield to the black top..
at 15mph i cant even get out of a rut at 25mph i can jump the ruts and avoid having to be tugged by someone else.
humnnn. might have to get some info from a couple that came down from new york and Jim took pictures of the tree huggers killing and destroying the habitates for endangered birds up north somewhere trying to keep people out of the fishing areas.. it work.. the fisherman never approached nesting areas but the bird watchers were doing more harm than good by watching them..
I envoke the operate ones vehicle at a safe speed.. on pavement that usually requires slowing down.. in the sand well that might just require speeding up.. Very Happy

I have worked for the government for 22 years so far. It doesn't make a difference which sector you work in...its all the same dodo just different faces. There is no logic or reason behind some of the rules they make or the money they spend. I have learned not to worry about the mule, I just load the wagon, drink lots of coffee, and don't make waves. I see people come and go all the time some who try and change the world and those who build little kingdoms and they always crumble. I agree that the speed limit is stupid, as stupid as the guy who made the ruling, one day he too will crumble along with the kingdom he is building just wait and see. Its the government.

would 14 feet make a difference is the big ???????

the answer is it would make a big difference if you where standing at the 13 foot mark!!!!!!!! LOL

but the big difference is going to be time it takes to get to mansfield cut.

but i guess it's better than walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
