And they had to use a panga, didn't they? I'll surely be profiled in mine, especially with snooker-ed aboard.

You know, I have thought about the cure for this. I have a buddy who is an ex Navy Seal(trained sniper) and he now works for a private company that provides security for oilfield related excursions to places around the globe where this stuff happens. Mainly in Africa/mid east. Anyway, I think the shipping companies should hire guys like my bud to go on the sea voyages with them and stand guard at the ships rails with a 50 cal and just wait till the pirates get into range and mow them down in their boat, fill the boat full of holes, and it's pretty much a done deal. No big mess, the Sharks get a free meal. And probably nothing sends a message to a criminal more clearly than a nice big fat "shoot first, there will be no questions after" stance. I believe after a few pirate boats fail to come back to shore, these losers will go back to raping and murdering their own. Hey, now that is a win-win situation.

I don't understand why our military can't keep a couple of armed Predators in the air over that area, and catch these guys in the act. Works for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. |

I dont understand it either.. with millions of dollars in cargo they really should have some armed forces aboard. Big deal to take care of a boat full of wanna be pirates.. |

Seems to me just put a twin 50 bow and stern gun mounts on the ships for all too see and they will be left alone. RPG7 have an effective range of only 100 meters and automatically detonate at 400 meters. The AK47s are of little risk out side 200 meters. A twin 50 is effective at 1000 meters and with interdispered tracer rounds easily put on target with a little training.

|
|
NAIROBI, Kenya – The American crew of a hijacked U.S.-flagged cargo ship retook the vessel Wednesday from the Somali pirates who seized it far off the Horn of Africa, Pentagon officials said.
Capt. Joseph Murphy, an instructor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, told The Associated Press that he was called by the Department of Defense and told the crew, including his son Shane, the second in command, had regained control.
At a noon news conference, Maersk Line Ltd. CEO John Reinhart said that the company was working to contact families of the crew.
A U.S. official said the crew had retaken control and had one pirate in custody.
"The crew is back in control of the ship," a U.S. official said at midday, speaking on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the record. "It's reported that one pirate is on board under crew control — the other three were trying to flee," the official said. The status of the other pirates was unknown, the official said, but they were reported to "be in the water." |

didnt hit the link to see the most up to date status.. but 3 in the see..
chark bait.. sounds like some vato locos got what coming to dem..
vamanos ese.im from sa..
not sure why they have not allowed the big ships running in that area to run 50cals.. they are sure a good deterant.. but damaging in the wrong hands. i think that a big ship as big as a target that it is, can hit a smaller ship easier to stop it than a panga to hit the mounted 50cal. on the cargo ship. do not think that a panga can hold enough ammo to do to much damage. but they may end up changing there tactics.
like some of the other issues going on at pins.. the best defense is a good offense.. or at least be ready if crud hits the fans. _________________ Fish and Hunt Baby.... so tight lines and clear scopes. |

At 250+ miles offshore of Somalia how in the heck are they carrying enough fuel to run that Panga out there?
There has to be a mother ship- I say we bomb the mother ship also! |

This whole thing is crap. The pirates operate from a mothership. Torpedo and/or send a missile or two to that ship, and they WILL get the message. It's the same old thing. Our idiot world leaders are looking for a kinder, gentler world [like banning handguns] but as the old saying so succinctly points out, "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"!!!! They want to treat the symptoms instead of fixing the problem................. _________________ Dave

Not to turn too political, but I think our POTUS would rather talk to them and understand their needs, and work together for a mutual acceptable solution that benefits the whole world. I'm sure the Somalis are just misunderstood.
