Here is a copy of my earlier report, with pics.
The high tides have pushed all the fish from last week to the edge of the dunes, so the fish I saw today were all fresh(er) dead. Numbers are significantly less than the first big round, although the composition was about the same.
Mullet, ladyfish, spot, a scattered red drum or two, and a few decent sized spanish mackerel.
Right before the sticks, I did come across a jack cravelle that was pushing 20+ lbs!! Up near the high tide line, and pretty bloated.
At the south side of Packery, the surfers said that the water still hurt their eyes quite a bit. There was a steady procession of fresh-dead fish floating out the channel with the falling tide, although the water color was far cleaner and more green than I would have thought for as much north wide as we had.
Saw some of the largest standing waves between the jetties I have ever seen with the strong outgoing tide. Took a number of water sample for cell counts along the way.
Red foam in the surf the whole way, more so as you head south...

Yeah, like an idiot I headed down from SA yesterday to the stix only to see dead fish everywhere -- from the stix to BHP, lots of ladyfish, mullet, several jacks, some nice (25-28") trout, one nice snook and both red and black drum. High tide washed most of the older dead up to the dunes and it was reeking pretty bad. Reddish foam in the waves. Of course I should have known better but just could not hold back giving it a go . . .
Headed back to SA where, later on, the red tide turned into kind of a golden colored one with the strong smell of whiskey . . . and all was right with the world again.
This stuff better clear out as a Mansfield trip is in the works for November. . . _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

| Calaveras Lake by the dam area this time of year is hard to beat. Cast net some tilapia and perch and wait for the big schools of adult reds to pass through. |
