made it out to the 20 n fought it out. irritation in the nose eyes and throat. fought it out for about 5 hours with plenty of mullet, shad n skippies in the surf. plenty of pelicans feeding on mullet. only ended up with one huge gafftop, a large skippie used as cut bait to catch a 3ft blacktip. surf was rough but managable. warm when sun was out. went back north around the ten n fished for about an hour with same symptons, (ENT). first time encountering this stuff and it was certainly unpleasant. other than that would have made for a good day to be on the water. _________________ I'm a Mawg: Half Man, Half Dog. | I emailed Dimitra at PINS and she said they had the aerosol symptoms with the burning eyes and cough, itchy throat and said techs had reported dead fish south of the 3 but she didn't know how far south the dead fish were reported. |

i just came from driving the beach along mustang island and no noticeable symptoms, and I'm fairly susceptible to its effect. _________________

Hot off the press:
Red Tide Update 10/13/09 morning
Higher concentrations of red tide cells were found in Monday’s water samples collected around the South Padre Island area. Light to moderate aerosol irritation has been reported from the area and dead fish began washing ashore yesterday afternoon. TPWD is assessing the fish kill, which so far looks to be comprised of ladyfish and hardhead catfish.
No cells were seen in this morning’s images taken by the Imaging Flow CytoBot at Port Aransas.
Looks worse down south. Lets hope we dodged a bullet up here. |

I checked out the beach and surf this evening from White Cap down south of Bob Hall to Kleburg beach area. The further south, the more dead fish on the beach, but all I saw were dead mullet, and only a few scattered around.
I didn't see any red foam, but did feel a scratchy throat and itchy eyes starting as I got to Kleburg area.
There were also large flocks of seagulls and pelicans working the wade gut, but I couldn't see what they were after. |
