Headed out Thursday with a friend saw very little going on that day. Tide was meandering in. Ended with 3 nice smacks and a couple of mangroves one was donated by another fisherman.

Tuesday morning and what a difference a couple of days will make. Got up prepared to do some yakking when a gut feeling told me Dale was going to be wrong and the Front would be in early. So headed to the Jetties got there around 10. First mullet in the water hookup with a nice slot red. About 20-30 minutes later 2nd red goes in the box. About this time the Front starts moving in and the end of the jetty gets rough so the guys move from there to around me. Right as the rain is starting to come down harder I land my third red at 27". All around these I am catching lots of mangroves keeping the larger ones and the deep hooked ones. Finally the rain drives us all off the jetty for a while. I head for lunch and a break then back on the Jetty around 1:30 Head back to the same spot and the Reds were hungry started hitting my mullet as soon as it would hit the water. One after another all from 19-28". The wind started really making it rough so packed up and left them biting.

Those little mangrove snappers sure look tasty. I have never caught any, but I hope to next week. What is the best bait and hook size to catch them with if you don't mind me askin'? Do you fish for them pretty much right up against the rocks?

I caught all my smacks freelining those little shad you can catch around the rocks the added benefit is that when it is drifting you are likely to catch some snapper also. Downside is you catch lots of smaller weird trash fish also. Also caught mine in the center of the channel don't forget the wire leader when doing this.

I caught this guy the other day doing that. I think he is a grouper of some sort.

Ditto on the tasty Rock Hind. Can't really tell by the picture, but I have seen a number of Rock Hinds on Packery in the late part of this summer, but all in the 8-10" range. Not big enough to target with my speargun.
