Finally got out for the first time in nearly a week. Waded at IMS-Rock for about an hour and a half around sunset to kill some time after work. Got a few small trout plus one 18" and a 24". All on topwaters. Released the 18, kept the 24 for a fish fry with friends last night. Also, thinking about replacing the treble hooks on my superspooks with single hooks, to keep them dancing right when theres alot of floating weeds. I already miss alot of blowups with the trebles, so I am curious to see how many more I miss with the single hooks. Has anyone tried this?
Heres are some lousy cellphone pics of the 24

Nice catch - I have been looking for some trout with out much luck.
The infamous question of switching out the hooks. This is a preference.
Your wanting to change out to catch less weeds so maybe less fish?
I was told by a guide well whats better 1 hook or 3 hooks?
Good Luck! _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

If I have 1 dollars its the same as having 3 dollars...
I'm just messing with you TopDog. Its a preference thing - just like if there is too much grass I put away the top water and go weedless on my lures. oh know I take that back _ i don't want to get into the weedless set ups..lol
ltorna1 you have been on a roll with them trout. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

those look like the exact hooks I bought for my superspook jrs. Thanks for the pic. I will do a little experiment this weekend and report how many I lose single vs treble. Also, I just bought the Zara puppy, that tiny little topwater. That things looks like it its going to be a dynamite lure when its dead calm and the fish are easy to spook off. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Nice speck.
I take the trebles off mine iwhen the weed is in and use singles too. I don't thank the miss rate is any higher or lower with either hook. |

Ok, so phase 1 of the experiment. Went out the last 2 days. Weeds were heavy as expected. Single hooked mini-redfish-clone-colored super spook junior danced through the grass pretty effortlessly, getting lots of blowups. Hookup ratio was about 3 fish to every 8 hits. Granted, most of them were small specks that wouldn't have hooked themselves on trebles either. Fact is though, I never would have been able to even get that many blow ups with the trebles b/c of the weeds. The ones that did get hooked, they were mostly all in the lip, sometimes even both circle hooks in the mouth, and only 1 red was foul hooked on the pectoral fin base. Definitely easier on the fish, which is good considering I release alot of em. Think im sticking with the circle hooks. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
