Last week I had read on the board that the reds were biting strong at Packery. How has the bite been, since all of the rain moved in? _________________ Carl

Completely OFF, as of yesterday (at least from what I saw on my scout trip to check the water color).
One a side note, the amount of old bait and trash at the end of the South Jetty was the worst, BY FAR, I have ever seen. The pogies and mullet left by "fishermen" was truly disgusting (and that's not just the stench that was left behind). I will think twice about posting a good run again, if all it results in is a collection of inconsiderate wanna-be's.
[edited after reading your followup. It should have read the North Jetty was trashed out, not the South. That was where the red drum run was centered this week. CS]

The trash is just as bad on north packery between the boat ramp. Went for a walk with wife and lil one before the storm came in. Lots of birds working bait in the channel.
Saw a truck stuck in the tidal flat near marker 37. He was stuck pretty good. don't think he made it out before the rain hit. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

You should know by now that most people have no respect for nature or their fellow fishermen. I would venture to guess that the people who left the jetties that way are pot lickers to boot. _________________ Fish or cut bait....You make the choice! |

Just got back from SPJ and finally broke my jinx there with two sand trout. Fished from 7 til dark.
There were two young couples catching sandies and skips in shad. Mine were picked up on a Gulp! shrimp. The girls would scream for help when they hooked up and their b/f's would help them. Nice to see them having fun. One of the girls landed a large sandy( 15"+) during the run. They are planning are shark fishing tomorrow, so I donated a couple to their cause.
congrats to the guy who fought a slot red on a very light spinning reel from the middle of the jetties to the port a potties. One of the young guys fishing with the girls (sorry no pics) went and got a net, waded out to help him land it. He probably fought a good 30-40 mins. Nice job by that young man helping him out (must be from the bluff).
Lots of bait in the water, no takers on DOA shrimp or topwaters. Water was gin clear with a strong current. Looks like most fish caught on bait.
Saw some trash, but my guess is most was washed out to sea. Wish they would empty the trash cans.
We picked up a plastic little around us, but my wife headed to the truck when a LARGE rat ran out from the rocks (not as good as our mascot, only a foot long) _________________ Johnny D

I'm always amazed (even though I shouldn't be) at the lack of consideration people have in taking care of our natural resources. I guess I'm old fashioned, I was raised to leave a place in better condition than I found it.
I suspected the bite was slow; however, a bad day fishing always beats a good day at work. _________________ Carl

| Sometimes the reds are not at the end of the jetty. I fished the end for a while. No reds but got spooled by a large king. Started catching mangroves till some spear "fishermen" came and camped on my hole. They sacked em up. When they got out I told them thanks for screwing up my bite. They just looked at me like I was the azzhole. I moved in to the bridge and got my 3 slot reds in 10 min. Caught 8 more in about 30 min. All released unharmed. I told some guys nearby to come over to get in on it while they were there. They also limited quickly. Then a jackazz who thinks he is exempt from game laws came and started loading his truck with all he could get. |

I didn't head to the jetties all day. Too bad to hear some rookie messed up your day. |

| Redfish is in full force just about every day. It is a mattering of coordinating your fishing with moving water. |
