My God. What a loss. Larry taught me so much about surf fishing. Before both he and I moved away from Corpus, we used to get together for lunch or a quick beer after work at Knuckleheads. That man taught me how to tie a pulley leader, how to crimp leader ends, and why circle hooks were better than the others. I will miss him deeply. My prayers are with his family and of course to his better half. I still have a really nice pair of reef boots that were to big for his wife that he gave me, brand new, hoping they would fit my wife. They were too big for her too. I have yet to find someone to give them too that they fit.
He was truly a generous man, and a great friend. Tyler, please keep us posted of funeral arangements. |

I am very sorry to hear this -- prayers sent to the families and friends. God be with them and may those lost rest in peace. _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

| WOW. Very sad indeed. Wasn't he just posting up about the new Panga he had bought?? Sad that things have to come top and end so suddenly. |

For those who did not know him, he was a very interesting character. He used to work for Boots & Coots and headed up crews that put out the oil well fires in Kuwait at the end of Desert Storm.
Several board members, members of the Shore Fishing Club, were invited to join him at his fishing camp at Matagorda Bay a few years back. Only Artie beat us there. We spent a couple hours getting to know him then Larry showed up. Until other guests showed up, Susie and I were the only ones there that had not been shot. Larry had been shot in Vietnam, and Artie, well if you knew him, you could only speculate about that adventure. Great stories were shared.
We had a special weekend there, lots of interesting characters and a great host. The fishing camp, as it turns out slept 28 and had 6 bathrooms and two kitchens.
It has been a long time since I've been in tears, truly sad news.

| Its gotten me also guys. I personally never knew Larry other than online. But I can tell by all his great friends that he was a great man. And he will be deeply missed. Unfortunately all we can do now is cherish the time we did get to spend with him. Everyone one of you will be in my families prayers. Especially the families of all the men that where lost last night. |

Shocking and very, very sad news. Flak was an all around good guy. I regret never making one of those SFCCI parties at the Matagorda Lodge. My thoughts are with his family..

I too knew Flakman quite well and spent quite a few times at Los Cazadores at Matagorda. He taught me a lot about how to fish Matagorda Peninsula. He was a class act. He was always hospitable and great to hang around with. The news of course came as a shock to me and I called a few old friends that knew him to give them the sad news. He will be sorely missed. Our condolences to Deanna and the rest of the families. Our prayers are with all the other mens families as well.
Larry was also in a documentary on The History Channel (I think) about the blowout fires in Kuwait that Boots and Coots put out. He managed quite a few projects over there and helped make Boots and Coots famous.
Rest in peace Flakman.

When Tyler called me to let me know I almost dropped. I just can't believe that he left this world so soon. I guess the good Lord needed some help up there.
I met Flakman through SFCCI and he will be missed by many. I spent many a weekend at his camp on the Colorado in Matagorda. He was the kind of guy that would help out anyone that he saw needed it, you didn't even have to ask.
I gotta go before I lose it as well. God bless his family and his lovely wife Deana.

| Very sad news. Over the years I have enjoyed reading his reports from his numerous fishing adventures. I feel lucky to have met him and fished the same beach. thoughts and prayers to his loved ones! |
