I've heard that the direction of the wind (among other things!) makes a difference in fishing. What's the best direction? Noticed another northerly wind is due to come in, again, this weekend.

Wind change is the only real problem. Blows out of the SE here most of the time so many have spots that fish are usually at during these conditions. Fish move often times with change of wind direction, so the fish you were catching often times arn't there anymore. It is espeacially difficult to get a pattern when it is blowing SE today, NE tommorrow, and back to SE the next day unless you are on the water all the time and know were they go. Often times change of wind means a front which will change the air presure and can raise or lower the tides in some areas. North wind always screws up my fishing, but others have the secrets but will they tell?

The fish seem to thrive on our prevailing winds, which are out of the se. Theres just a few years of experience behind that statement. Or I would not have said it. Smile

The prevailing SE wind shapes bottom structure with time. A good example is the ICW - fairly pronounced lip on the west side and a more gentle sloping edge on the east side. Game fish use structure as ambush points for bait fish, among other things, so fishing tends to be the most predictable under the prevailing winds. A west wind produces currents in opposition to this scenario, thus the saying that when it blows out of the west, stay home and mow the yard. Another way to think of it is this: what Stan said!

I'm fairly new to PINS. This kind of info (West wind, stay in Buda) is great, thanks.

I can come down this weekend or next. I love catching jack fish in the surf. I saw that a bunch were caught last week. Will the North wind this weekend hurt my chances or are they still there and I just have to find them? Thanks. Very Happy

I didn't know there were so many of us from Buda. What's our population, anyway?

Light west wind will blow the surf flat.

Appreciate the info. Never knew how the wind has effected the structures. Have a cabin near Bird but like to fish the shorelines too. This info will help.

Thanks IMS and RPOOL i appreciate the tip on the west winds as well. I always thought the west winds would be ok since they did not stir up the bottom as much as an east or hard south east wind.
