I know all of you guys and gals are hot to trot to keep the beaches open. Do yall realize that the fast idiotic driving on the front 5 is going to hurt you? We went to our favorite spot for a day trip, well before the 4wd sign and saw quite a number of idiots driving well over the 15 mph speed limit, tripling it in many cases. And EVERYONE but one that I saw speeding had big reels and rigs mounted or visible on the vehicle. The exception was a maroon GMC van that was slipping and sliding all over the place and just about hit my z71.
There is absolutely no way that some kid is not going to get hit and probably killed the way these sxxxheads are driving. The close the beach crowd will jump all over that and use it to hurt you guys. I intend to bring my radar gun and my digital camera down next time i am out and take pictures in a way that the license plate and idiot along with the radar gun reading are all visible. I know that most if not all of the people on this board are the choir, so to speak, but for God's sake, get the word out to the idiots to SLOW THE F DOWN.
I am a long time PINS fisherman on a 'leave of absence' while my last two kids at home are finishing up their sports. I had spent nearly every weekend out there for a long time before my kids found travel sports, but they want to surf and fish and play - and there is no place better than PINS. |

Make sure you do the same to the government vehicles also. |

Well said, Donnie. I even noticed some of the Big Shell Beach Cleanup participants speeding back north through RV Land Saturday, no doubt on their way for their hot dogs and chips at Malaquite. It's not just the open beach folks who'd suffer. It'd be a bad stroke for Captain's Billie's Cause, too, if someone associated with it clipped a kid or a snowbird and made the national headlines. |

I will admit that when I am on an open stretch of PINS I drive over the speed limit until I come upon someone and then I slow down usually under the speed limit until I get past them then I speed back up. Am I breaking the law, yes but I am also curtious enough to other people to respect their
"spot" and pass them without them worrying about their kids, dogs, and items thrown all over the beach and not kicking up sand. But when we live in a country of rude people who think they are the only ones on this planet then you have idiots flying by sometimes within inches of your own vehicle. I spend more time on PINS then any other area so I have seen all those idiots also. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

I didnt see any government vehicles traveling fast - I saw the rangers go back and forth many times but I never saw them in position to ticket the speeders.
Regarding driving on the unpopulated areas, I totally agree. To me driving fast down there follows the old common courtesy rule, if no one is there, who cares how fast you go. But when you get near a camp, people will sense slow down, and the people that I knew when I was down there a lot, did respect the camps, basic common sense. Who wants to dent the front of our trucks. But in the front 5 and anywhere around camps, slow down. |

True, we have to put our best foot forward for safety and plain common courtesy.
It is easy for those who would like to close beaches to driving to point to a few people doing donuts and speeding in populated areas. There is no excuse for that.

I've often wondered what is exciting to some people about driving around in tight circles, digging ruts on the beach. It's not like it takes talent or anything.
I doubt seriously that the idiots flying through the 15mph area read this message board (if they can read at all), but the only thing that will stop them is enforcement of the limits by the Rangers. I doubt that the Park Service has the budget for continuous speed limit enforcement patrols. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, neither have I. |

Yep, definitely too many people speeding on PINS, but there are too many people speeding everywhere and anywhere you can drive.
All we can do is be courteous and slow down around the camps. I will stay at 15mph the first 5 miles. I will get up a little speed in areas where no one is at, but slow down as soon as I come close to a camp. I normally putt through at 5 mph or so by camps with small children or loose dogs. _________________ GOBZA!!!

I imagine most folks view driving faster than the speed limit down in the open stretches of PINS, when you cant see a car or camp in either direction as similar to the old 'if a man says something in the middle of a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?' statement.
I see it the same way, speed limit should be common sense, drive whatever is safe, if you are too damn stupid to have common sense, at least paint a peace sign on your truck so I can have a target. |

| I for one can vouch for "Obsessed" he obeyed the speed limit in that area the entire way. He drives like an old lady wearing cataract glasses. Good thing about it was that I got to enjoy the view. |

The only reason he drives the speed limit there is for the view...lol
I obey the limit in the front 5miles. I actually had a line behind me because I was 'holding up traffic', lol
Afterwards, if there are not any camps, clear sailing and smooth sand, I'll speed...just like everyone else. I always slow down for the camps (I tend to know most of the people so I stop and chat anyways). Not just for fear of having a child, dog, or drunk run out in front of you...but if you fly through on a dry day, you'll throw sand all over the place.

I'm guilty as well where it isnt crowded and slow down around others as well, One of the great things about PINS is I can let my kids run around and be kids without fear. _________________ In order to become old and wise , we must first be young and stupid! |

got one word for ya "ORBS"
Rudy, be thankful you didn't have to drive down!
like Rudy and ShawnQ said, i do the limit in that area, you never know (plus the view can be pretty good sometimes) ...matter of fact we had a couple of people cross right in front of me...didn't know i was there stopped until they looked up from the middle of the road...
after the 4wd sign, i usually drive slow enough not to tear my truck apart and when there are camps, well, it's obvious, we all just need to slow down. We had a few trucks come through our camp in the 30's...got sand blown all over us, not fun.
a little side note...some people also need to learn who has the RIGHT-OF-WAY coming off the beach...people just don't want to move...but the "Troca Blanca stare down" worked 4 out of 5 times... the last one was a car and couldn't get over the sand wall... _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com
