I posted the following on TKF, and would like some local feedback - anyone interested in this?
I need to know how many people would be interested in a Kingfish/Ling BTB tourney in Corpus Christi on Saturday, August 1. Yes, this is VERY long range planing, but I'm planning on doing this for a fundraiser, and now is the time to line up sponsors before they all get hammered later in the year. I would also entertain doing a bay division for Trout & Reds. For safety, this event would require teams of 2-3. I'll get into format later.
The Purpose of the tourney is 2 fold. First, it is a Fundraiser for Mission of Mercy - They provide free medical exams for those in need - real doctors donate their time, MOM as we call them needs the money for supplies, etc.
Secondary, to bring attention to kayaking on the TX coast, especially down the lower coast. I can get the media coverage if we can get the turnout. I'll get into format/rules later. For now I just need to know who would be interested in participating.
Feedback on format and entry fees are appreciated. I'm thinking entry fee in the range of $50-$75 per team ($25 per person) with the payout going to the 1st, 2nd 3rd place teams. I'm also thinking of adding some ffun side pots where 100% of those proceeds go back to the anglers i.e. spanish mak w/ most spots, largest trigerfish, etc.
For the sake of conservation, no sharks may be weighed in, and a max. of 3 kingfish and 1 ling will be allowed to be weighed in per team. Feedback welcomed here as well.
There are lots of oil rigs in green/blue water that are accessible w/out 4x4 from Port Aransas all the way down to PINS. Most are between Mustang and Padre Island.

Thanks Bluffer - we got tons of responses from TKF. This tourny is a go. I will post up details & format after the April City Election - I'm running for City Council, District 1. _________________ Vegetarian (n)...Old indian word for bad hunter |

I'd be interested in the reds and trout tourny, as far as the price that sounds great, but maybe you should open the fishing up to the intracoastal as well and not just the bay. _________________ Fish like there's no tomorrow. |
