I bought a yugo SKS and a few Hungarian AMD 65's right before the election. I just got all the cosmoline off the darn SKS. I have not even beenn to the range with it yet since Corpus Christi Gun Club's rifle range is still being reconfigured. I cant wait to try it out. I ended up paying something like 279.00 from JGsales.com. It is a neat looking rifle and i imagine it will shoot well...

Friend of mine just bougth his adult son a new Bushmaster Target Model AR 3 (identical to the one my friend has) to give him for Christmas. Bought it in November. He paid $968 retail, and two weeks later they were over $1200. His dealer said that if he could find another one after the first of the year, he expected it to be in the $1500-$1800 range. Wouldn't you know it and I've passed up a dozen over the years in favor of more traditonal firearms.

I have 2 and they are both tack drivers out to about 125 yards. Beyond that the heavy slow moving bullet just starts to drop to fast. I scoped both of mine and on a good day can shoot a 10 shot group that is about an inch diameter. Of course they also got some trigger work and a deflector for the top extraction. They are my primary hog guns. They are getting harder to find. Both J&G and Southern Ohio Guns are out of them. I imagine they will import some more in from eastern Europe early next year and the price will be back down.

No - Actually it is quite common at less that 125 yards. You need to do some reading on the merc sites and quit listening to your friends. |

10 shots holding around 1" at 125 yards is pretty common for an SKS?
the only ones I've ever shot would do at the best... maybe 3" at 100 yards. One I owned about 10 years ago shot about 7" groups with iron sights...that's the best and the worst I've personally experienced.
It just seems odd that you're saying a military surplus rifle often made from lower quality steel components that was really designed to hit man sized targets under 300 yards, will shoot better than most modern bolt action rifles. (10 shots into ~ MOA)
I didn't say you were lying, I said it was "amazing"....
They're good guns to use what they are designed for.. they usually go "bang" when you pull the trigger, and can be expected to hit a man sized target out to 300 yards with resonable consistancy. They are not benchrest sub MOA rifles....

Also depends on what version you have and what you do to them. I have a C&R FFL and I ordered mine directly from the distributors. They were hand picks, excellent barrels, and chrome lined. In addition to the scopes and deflectors, the stocks were replaced with synthetic sporter stocks. The barrels are floated, and I am thinking about pillering them and bedding the accuracy which should increase the action even more!!
Just to help you out with some reading.

I used to have one in the Chinese Version. I added a scope and put the Drugonov stock on it and loved it. Then with the cheap price of ammo and stripper clips, oh my! Not super accurate, but it hit everything I aimed at!!! I ended up selling it off when I found out that if you hit the rear shaply and it's loaded, it will go off even with the safety on. I kinda regret letting it go and may possibly start looking for another one in the near future. hmmm.......time for another toy!
