|
Good news we are getting a profit share check on the 28th so now I have more money to spend on a spinning rig. Maybe $150 tops including rod. I will also use it for freshwater.
Your suggestions. Cabelas, Shimano, Diawa, Okuma
Thanks

For about that price I picked up a 7' Falcon Rod and a Diawa BG 15. I love that set up. Its durable (which is most important to me), strong (28" red largest so far on that rig, whipped 'em good) and a simple reel with lots of available parts.
What I like best about that set up is it can handle larger reds, but is still light enough that its fun catching smaller trout.
Just my preference.

I agree. I enjoy using daiwa and okuman spinning reels. I also have a shimano sahara that has held up well _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| For about that price, you can get a shimano sahara and a 7' stiffy medium / light spinning rod. It's an awesome rod. We've caught reds up to 50 lbs, tarpon over 50lbs, and tons of slot sized reds and snook. Works great on specks too. It's the best all around rod I've used. I have them in both spinning and casting. I would rather put a 2500 stradic on it, but the sahara is a decent reel. You can contact Kevin or Will at Fibertex to check them out. (361-991-5956) I have a couple of rods that have caught hundreds, maybe even thousands of reds over the last three tournament seasons. They're still going as strong as ever. My partner liked them so much the first time he used mine, he switched over too! |

I agree on the Stradic 2500FH but like the Falcon Coastal 8' for the surf!

So where in CC can I get them. I plan on being in town on the 27th around 7 or so.
Who has the best prices. That stardic is expensive, with a falcon I am looking at the $200 range. Got to stay lower.
What line. I am thinking powerpro. What weight or size.
What rod a little more specific.
Thanks for your inputs.

| I'd go with a penn 4400, have caught many oversized reds and drum with 10lb big game. Very Little Maintenance needed and very reliable. Own Several of them and wouldnt go with any other brand. W/a falcon rod ur set |

| The Stiffy is around $80. I've owned all the top brands and have been impressed more by this rod than any of the others. I spooled mine up with 15 lb power pro. Put about 5 ft of mono backing first. Use about 30" of 20lb floro-carbon line on the end as a leader. Works great. With a reel in the 2000 to 2500 range, the balance is perfect. Super light weight. Less fatigue on the really long and hot days. |

Shimanos are great reels. I have an ultralight on a 5 1/5 fenwick reel. Great setup for panfish and bass.
The only thing I don't like on the shimano's is the very small amount of line you can put on them.
What about the Okuma's, Epixor (baitfeeder version also), alumina, avenger and orxy. The Stradic is way out of what I want to spend at this time.
As for the rod I am leaning towards the Falcon coastal in 7 or 7 /1/2 ft.
Thanks for all the great input.

| I use the Symetre reels ($80) and my friend uses the Sahara ($60) and neither of us any complaints... should have enough leftover for a decent rod. |

From what I gather in the many and very welcome post Shimano is very high on the list followed by the Diawa. For the price range the Sahara and Symetre are well within my price range. The BG15 is priced lower but in the same group.
Seems that most lean towards the 2500 series with 15lb line for all reels.
Falcon rods seem to be very high on everyones list. Skunked seems to be high on the Smitty rods but I can't seem to find any information on them. 7ft rod length seem to be the 1st choice for everyone.
What about other rods brands.
What about the Symetre 2500 with the cabelas 7ft MH fish eagle II combo. $139.
SetTheHood, do you come to the same conclusion?
Carlos
Can't wait for Friday to come around. |

The stiffy rods can be seen at www.stiffypushpoles.com/rods.htm
Like I said before, I have owned all the high end rods. All I have now are stiffys. Give Kevin or Will a call and go by the shop and see one in person. Take your reel with you so you can see how the rod & reel is balanced. Their number is 361-991-5956. |
