BASICALLY, THE SAND BETWEEN THE WATER AND THE VEG LINE IS CONSIDERED PUBLIC PROPERTY. THERE ARE SOME RULES THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ UP ON SO THE KING RANCH GAME WARDENS DON'T TEACH YOU A LESSON.

Your better off not hunting it. There are those that have and will but it can turn into an expensive battle to fight...ie court costs, geologists, and other experts etc.

What you talking about Willis??? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing and it's 825,000ac.Cool

It's legal but it's a pain in the butt and not worth the time and effort to hunt it. Had a guy shoot a buck about 3 miles up the creek and theTPWD warden made him drag it all the way back to the highway thru the mud and sand along the bank. NOT FUN lol!!!!

Also the shoreline south of Bluff's landing is monitored heavily by the ranch, sometimes I ride with the Ranch officer that Oversees the Laureles Division, Don't want to meet Ya'll that way!!!!

have a buddy's buddy that manages some property accross from kings ranch on baffin bay, he just waits til they get on his side of the shore line.. he has witnessed too much trouble on the shore line. he knows the people that monitor the property and check out for poachers.. and yeah.. too much property to try to find someone.. that is wild texas land.
and after having business dealing with BK Johnson for many years prior to his passing.. He was a great fellow, if he were still alive and caught you on or near his property you may not talk fast enough before you were no longer around.
Working with the Game Wardens with TPW for the Youth Hunt Program.. I would check with your game warden and get buddy buddy with them before even getting close to the point that it is in the gray area..
So like others have said.. not worth it.

Nobody is going to disappear by poaching any ranch, what will happen is they'll lose their stuff, a bunch of money, and ruin their reputatioin if caught breaking the law- You are legal to hunt that land, if you want to -do it. In Kenedy County you can only hunt tidal land with a shotgun & shot-meaning its buckshot only or nothing these days. Its doable- but you gotta make your shot count, and if you wound something get help from the game warden. One of the things that has made me the madest in terms of dealing with wardens is their almost absolute refusal to discuss hunting these areas, it is total bull. The legalility of boundaries, etc. is very poorly defined, and in many cases is enforced inappropriately, get a map from the general land office and see for yourself-theres alot of country to hunt that folks have no idea about.

Thank you for a post with some realistic information!

all this black helicopter business is over the top. I grew up down there, and heard the stories about poachers being shot out of helicopters, and the king ranch employees hiding the bodies.... it's all a load of poo poo. I met and talked to dozens of people who always "heard" something, yet I never knew anyone that had first hand experience of being shot at, or knew someone personally.

You're absolutely right though, you break the law, you're going to get caught out there.

I hunted the Los Olmos creek(I think that was it) about 15 years ago, below the tide line. It was legal to do it then, and unless something changed, it's still legal. Yes, if you shoot something, you're going to have to get it out of there.... but you're not shopping at HEB, you're hunting.

Personally, this "holier than thou" image the king has is a joke... it's a business that happens to be a ranch. There is public land that the business doesn't own, and it's tough poo poo if they don't like people hunting there.

If anyone is looking for a great public land hunt - archery only, shoot me a PM. I'm doing a trip to Lake Amistad. no grey area here. The public hunt areas are clearly marked, and best off, there is tons of game. Not a TP&W type II area. This is Federal property. I'm going for 5 days (due to the drive) the first week of December. Probably a Weds-Sunday type of deal.
