OK, here's the deal. I have TimeWarner Cable and I understand the price is going up (again). I wondering if anyone on the board has Direct TV.
We live on the island so we don't have many other options.
You experiences with Direct TV would be appreicated.

My experience was pi$$ poor. Whenever it got really windy or really stormy - forget it. The reception got poor or you would get that freeze then pop from frame to frame. That was here in SA. On mildly windy or rainy days it was okay though. With you living on the island and having lots of wind, it might not be the best option. Maybe they install it better in windy locales than they do up here.

I've had it for about 2 years on the island and now we live in the Bluff where it works the same. It works great untill like Big John said if its bad weather no TV. The wind was an issue but the dish was mounted too loose. The best part to me is if you don't tell DTV you can place up to 4 DTV boxs on one bill but they dont have to be in the same house.

I have had DISH NET since 1996 and would not have it any other way per channel cost is way cheaper and they had some of the channels before cable like Speed and Outdoor or the Military channel I put up my own dish so it is mounted correctly it will not move and loose signal, that is the main problem with the small dishes and wind as for the signal loss it has to rain real hard before the signal fades and if it does its only for a few minutes not like cable the whole area until its repaired,No I don't work for them just a happy subscriber Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I have Dishnetwork too and although I do like the variety and the clarity, it ALWAYS goes out for at least 5 - 25 minutes when a big storm comes through, no matter what they say. Cripes, the only time that I REALLY need the darn thing is when there is a tornado warning out and I want to watch the local radar to see when to go hide under the back porch, and that's WHEN it's useless!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

I have DTV & live here in the Bluff. Wind does not bother mine at all (mounted solid I guess)
You will lose a signal temporarilly during a HARD rain. But how often do we get hard rains around here!

Like it mainly cuz of more HD channels, if you get it be sure to get the HD box also. (awesome on a flat screen)

Plus has the NFL network is free and thats the reason I pulled the plug on Time Warner, had enough of that B/S missing key games!

Depends on what all premium channels you get. mine runs $49 a month for most everything, they start at $29 for just basic. Also extra for more than one HD box, reg boxes extras are free.

call time warner and tell them your canceling for direct tv.. tell them they have a much better deal and with the economy the way it is you are on a tight budget.. They will give you to a retentions specialist that will offer you some pretty sweet deals that you cant get by normally calling.. I got my bill from 150 a month to 105 a month by doing exactly this.. If you lock in for 2 years they will give you a 2 year price lock guarantee.. Good luck and feel free to PM me with any other questions..

Is AT&T U-Verse available there?

We switched to their system which actually is internet based. I have super fast broadband internet connection, 3 tv boxes w/ 1 dvr and some super cool features like setting the dvr online via a yahoo account. And the DVR plays on recorded programs on any other connected TV in the house. I pay $120/mo with taxes and for 3 TVs & a 6MB download wireless Internet connection. I do not subscribe to the premium channels like HBO.

I have been very satisfied since switching from Cox/Suddenlink cable to the AT&T U-Verse system.

Capt. Mike, when I moved back to the farm, I had my DTV dish mounted to my meter pole. the DTV guy was apprehensive about mounting it to a high-line pole, but when I explained that it was mine and not the elect co-op pole he had no prob with it.(their service stops at the transformer on a pole near-by). that said sattelite service can drop out during a heavy thunderstorm. because cable isnt availiable out here in rual areas, DTV works for me. high-speed internet dont, so for now I'm stuck chopping mesquite to power the boiler for my dail-up service Rolling Eyes sattelite internet is expensive, so if hi-speed internet is important, cable may be best in your situation. now, AT&T may be coming soon to my area with satellite TV, phone , and hi-speed. we have good coverage for our AT&T(SBC,Cingular) cell phones, so I may go AT&T for everything in the future.

do this but make sure you hit option 4 or something to get the cancellations dept...the regular customer service won't do a thing..

My Time Warner digital cable messed up for months, with numerous technicians unable to fix it...I fired time Warner and got Directv...the storms suck, but the clarity is better and more channels..

I don't really have any problems with it, and I've had it for years. Plus its got the NFL sunday package. That is money well spent for me.

Thanks guys....your input has been very helpful. Think I'm going to give DTV a try. Like Bluffer said, never rains here anyway.
