I did the Dolphin Docks once and had a great experience besides the EXTREMELY ruff seas that day. You literally had to wrap one arm around the rail and then hold the rod with it just to stay standing up. Everybody onboard caught some really nice fish though and I was very happy with the captain and the crew.

I think the Dolphin Express does about 20 knots.
they put me on some great fish on a 12 hr trip 3 yrs ago.
23lb ling
14lb snapper
took about 3 hrs to get in, so i guess we were 60+ mi. out.
also Offshore Adventures has a boat that does 22 knots.
mostly bottom fishing, nice folks.

I'll add a few comments wether it will help or not...

We took the Wharf/Scat Cat out two weeks ago(can't remember which boat it was) for the mid day 5 hour trip. It wasn't bad, landed several Kings between my wife and I. Mine was hooked the very second the capt. told us all to reel them in to head back in. I lucked out. The crew was pretty helpful. We are going back out this Friday for our first night trip with them.

I liked the Wharf boats because they are catamarans(sp) as the wife is prone to getting sea sick. I also like how you are under cover if it should rain. At the same time, Dolphin Dock Inc. has a couple of nice older boats and the price is a lot cheaper although Dolphin has a gas surcharge, not sure how much it is.

If it were up to me I would go with Wharf Cat/Scat Cat or Dolphin Dock Inc. They seem to be the larger boats and both have good reps in the group charter area. We mainly went with Wharf for the catamaran and knowing we could fish and not get soaked during the process. Dolphin is cheaper with older boats that 'may' charge a gas surcharge while Wharf has much nicer boats with no surcharge but are definatley more expensive.

Edit: on a side note, the Wharf Cat/Scat Cat charges less per beer than the Dolphin Dock Inc Smile Either way, both are reputable group charters. You either like to rock and roll in waves or you don't. That is how I looked at it. Basically we paid the extra amount, minus any gas surcharge for simply having a smoother ride. If we strike out Friday night then I won't be back and will book passage on one of the Dolphin Dock boats next time.

I've had good luck with both Dolphin docks and Deep Sea Headquarters. I walked away with nice fish every time I go out with them. I have also been on the Wharf Cat and the Scat Cat, I won't trash them, but I won't go back out on them either.
