i recently gave in a baught one...its good because i think the money goes torward the beach (maintanance, etc.) but i still dont like the fact that we have to pay to park on OUR beach. this is how it starts..i hope they dont start placing new laws and little by little try to take our beach away again.

I refuse to buy a sticker to park on our beach. I catch my share of fish on free parking/non maintained beach areas.

Yeah, I noticed Thursday they were putting in a new(Parking Permit only) sign right by the Packery Channel-North Jetty where you park...Game Warden showed up also...Which was good to see... Cool

Was told by the guy(out-of-state) Surprised that caught the oversize red(31") got a ticket being his 3 day license had expired...Game Warden, released the red being it was still alive on a stringer...And said he gave him a break of a $500 ticket from not having it tagged... Shocked But took his (dead) (I'm guessing 20"+) flounder...
And gave him a ticket for the expired license...He asked me to watch his stuff, while he went to go get a new one...So might get it dismissed, just dpends on the judge I guess... Wink

Got my sticker in June, they had a booth set up at the main entrance on a weekend...
Being an out-of-towner, the $12 is no problem for me...

But I guess, if you live in the same county where you pay taxes in...
I could understand, not to be willing to pay.... Wink

That's a good point about the taxes. How many times should a person be taxed for using public land? I also think that charging for 'maintaining' the beach is crazy, as 'maintaining' the beach only ends up adding to problems in the end.

not only do we pay for the beach to be " maintained" by the city, but who does most of the "maintaining" anyway? its everyday people like you and me who organize most of the beach cleanups and whatnot. the cities version of maintaing the beach is a few dozers pushing sand back and forth. Evil or Very Mad

I was at the SPJ yesterday, and a guy from the city was trying to find the owner of a specific car. Looked like he was trying to get him to buy a parking pass before the car got a ticket, which i thought was nice. When my dad was in town, my car was in the shop and we parked out there. I didn't even think of the pass until we got back to the car and there was a note. All it said was that a sticker was required. I'm not sure if it's because he has Colorado plates, but it was really nice to see that someone put the info there instead of a ticket.

Another note: glad to hear about the game warden out at NPJ. I actually called Operation Game Thief on Thurs evening. Wife and I ran on the beach, then walked the Jetty. There were undersized trout, undersized Smacks and oversized Mullet, all in plane site...

Do you need a beach parking sticker to park at the boat ramp just inside the jetties?

Exactly!! same here. Dont think it would stand up in court, not parked on the beach, parked at the Jetty. Supposed to be a parking lot there. Just like you dont get ticketed for parking at Bob Hall pier P/lot. Take it to court!, then the Supreme Court if one has to, this a big ripoff & B/S!

Yeah, I spent a few hours yesterday morning at packery (south). W/i 5 minutes of pulling up, the parking police showed and started the ticketing process. Saw them writing up a bunch of vehicles.

TONS of mullet in the surf. Not a lot of people catching, it seemed. Suppose its hard to catch on mullet when there's 3,000,000 around you are competing with. Small pod of dolphins came in, one put on a nice show. Hung out with a family from dallas and helped them fill up their ice chest with mangrove snapper on live shrimp. . . they also caught a big croaker and a few spanish macks. Beautiful day out there.

I just follow the rules, and if the rules don't suit you, change them.

Go through the process if you don't like something.

i dont follow B/S rules that are only in place to make the city "folk" a little more jingle in their pockets! normal people like me cant just wake up one moring and change the process, it takes a lot of influence. we need someone in the right position who cares to help make a change.
