Did my favorite thing in the world today--headed out of Packery to fish the nearshore rigs. It was an absolutely perfect day. The surprising thing is that we had the water almost all to ourselves. We put in just after sunrise and were hoping we weren't too late. No worries. The only people we saw were a jet ski fishing another rig (I might consider that in the future) and a land office boat inspecting the rigs. I started things off with a nice pompano and layne snapper. Then, my mom and I got into some LARGE, FAT silver sea trout (I uses to call them sandtrout 'til I did some reading), whiting, and croaker. All were large specimens. I haven't seen croaker that size since I was in high school wading the bay side of the Oso. My fishing buddy managed two nice red fish to 26" and a beautiful red snapper along with a nice rock hind grouper. Mom ended the day with a red and a drum on two consecutive casts. After that, the catching just stopped. We were back and eating Whatabuger by 3pm before my kids got home. Mom and my buddy hate taking pictures so, being the poser that I am , that's me in the picture holding my buddy's fish.
The rest of the catch is in the ice chest

| Nice fish. One question. Are those not speckled trout? I'd like to see a close up of one if they aren't speckled trout. They look just like them, but I don't see any spots. Which makes me wonder if I've caught those in the surf before, because I've definitely caught a couple with no markings what so ever. thanks, and nice catch again. |

That's a huge Lane snapper!
RArnold - yes those are called silver seatrout. I've caught them out there and they get pretty big. Sandies dont' get near that size. Great eating. _________________ Vegetarian (n)...Old indian word for bad hunter |
