Thought many may be interested in this, so I'm going to divulge a guarded secret - Wink
I've found this program and maps to be very helpful especially when used in combo with Google Earth. There are many neat things about this program that I'll let you discover for yourself - best thing its absolutely free. The maps however, you have paid for those with your tax dollars.
A couple screen shots - and yes they go south of Baffin. Actually you will see that you can find maps for all nautical waters off the US coast. Pretty neat!

This is a wide shot to the TX coast - every black rectangle you see is another map - click at its corner (in the program) and it will bring up that map. It does not zoom in on the big map - it's a new map with greater detail. It looks really cluttered because all the points I have marked over the years show up.

Hope you all can use this to your advantage out there - I know I have.

A closer look...

closer... that's the PM jetties at the bottom.

Here's the link to the program...
http://www.maptech.com/support/doc.cfm?docid=123&plid=24&CFID=10840786&CFTOKEN=15481516
Download and install it first...

Here is the link to the NOAA website for all available maps...

http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/staff/chartspubs.html

You're going to need the raster maps. The link below will take you to a 'agreement' - go to the bottom and click proceed. The click the 'Graphical' icon. Use the tool bar (magnifying glass)at the top of the map to zoom in to TX or whatever you may want by dragging over them. Then use the selection tool and drag over the maps you want - they will be highlighted in blue. Click on add to cart and then proceed through the 'check out' process. It seems like you're going to have to pay for them, but trust me just go along with it - it's FREE. The last step is to click download. Create a file and download them to a specific place. Once this has completed you will need to direct Chart Navigator to this file.

To direct Chart Navigator to this file - Open it up and click on 'Charts' then 'Chart List' - a window will open, then click on the Advanced Chart Managment tab. Click on browse and go to the folder where you saved your maps. click OK then click on 'Change CD/Refresh Chart List'
That should do it... you may need to close it and restart the program.
Enjoy - it's fairly easy to work with and learn. I'm no expert and I figured it out. If you have trouble let me know I could have skipped a step or two somewhere.

Too bad I'm a total computer idiot. How do you unpack a zip file? Man, computers really make me feel stupid.

I had the same problem, Doahhh!!

But If you have a zip program, when you right click zip folder ...
You should see a (extract all) (in window box) below open, search, explore....etc...
Then right click (extract all)..
It will extract and make a seperate folder...
This (new) folder should show up in the Advanced Chart Managment tab...
When you browse for it...
And sub folders of it , would be what you add in list....
click OK then click on 'Change CD/Refresh Chart List'
Then it should be added to list....
=================================
Yeah, I have XP also...
And (extract all) this is what shows up for me...

Ernie - What operating system are you running? Windows? '98? XP? Vista?
I use windows XP and I can just click on the zip file and it will come up in a new window that gives me the option of where to unzip the file (The option is actually called 'Extract file' - same thing. Wherever you extract the zip file to would be the location/folder you will need to direct Chart Navigator to. If you're running an older system, you should be able to google up and download some free program that can unzip it for you. Let me know if this helps.

I'm running XP, I created a new folder in C and named it my maps, downloaded the chart to it, extracted it, and went trough the steps in chart navigator...charts/chart list/advanced/browse/.found the folder and clicked on it and hilighted the file and hit OK and the change/refresh list but nothing shows up on the available charts window except the 2 charts that were there when I downloaded maptech. Salem harbor, Manchester harbor, and maptech world. It seems like my problem is getting it from the active directories in advanced chart management to te available charts list!! I have to be doing something WRONG!!
later,
Ernie

Ernie:
When you browse from the chart navigator advance list...
You need to click into C:\
Then click (My Maps)
Then folder to (BSB folder)
Then into the numbered folders...
Last pic shown...
These last folders are the ones you need to add...

P.S.-- Try adding this folder first(BSB Root) folder)
It should load all...
Just make sure to hit ('Change CD/Refresh Chart List' )
After you add the BSB Root folder...

If still doesn't work...
add the last numbered files (inside the BSB Root file) to the list seperately...
Just make sure to hit ('Change CD/Refresh Chart List' )

Hope this helps...

Thanks, I'll try it. That food looks good, I've got a big pot of red beans and rice on the stove that would go perfect with that.

You can view those same maps online at the same maptech site on the map server. Been using it for a few years now. Those maps are nothing compared to the maps Ed is sealling. he aquired them from Artie Hebert and are the read deal, lots more info you can ever get online unless you pay for it.
