| I recently purchased a share in a cabin close to Bird Island. I have typically surf fished for years. I would like to get to know the upper and lower LM, where seasonally good spots are and general info. I have a bay boat and would like to know if ya'll know a guide or person who could use my boat to familiarize me with the area? (Where to go and how to get there). Of course, I'm willing to pay and not that much interested in fishing that particular day. Any help ya'll can send my way will be appreciated. |

first question, do have a picture of the boat and cabin....no just kidding.
Truthfully have you been to the cabin yet? on your own ? In other words have you ever launched at marker37 and cruised the icw. Just trying to figure your experience in the area so far. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| I've launched out of Bird Island and pretty much straight to cabin. Have cruised to Marker 37, but have not ventured south of Bird Island/Cabin. Pretty much scared to wonder off the ICW until I get to know the area. Have a GPS system and marking spots and paths is why I'd like to have someone (pref guide) help me in my own boat. Its a 21ft Kenner with 60 gal gas tank, so I shouldn't have a problem there. Thanks for the help. |

Just don't get your GPS nailed to a piling at the boat ramp. |

What size and kind of motor do you have on your Kenner? I have one with same tank, gets from Cove Harbor out to PA jetties and back with running around out there on about 1/2 a tank. Little less. _________________ Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock.

| I have a 200 Merc Optimax on it. It's not a tunnel and I don't have a Jackplate, but it still runs pretty shallow. Gas mileage is fai, although I'm still just breaking it in. Sounds like Singleterry is a good choice. Thanks. |

| Call Capt. Joey Farah--361-442-8145--knows the water as well as anyone; plus he also runs a Kenner. |

Ha! Potlickers! Gotta love that GPS! I am sure the guys on here could come up with some great secret gps locations which would provide hours and hours of fishing with noone else around for miles! |

| Give Capt. Tim Duncan a call @ 834-6305 or go to his website @ lagunamadrecharters.com, he is a great guy and knows the area real well. I'm not sure what he would charge you for a trip like that but give him a call and see what he says. |

Ditto on the Google Earth. If what you are REALLY interested in is channels, flats, holes etc, [navigational items] you can see what you need to know and put the coordinates into you GPS. If what you want it fishing spots while carrying a GPS with a guide, make sure that you get one with a sunny disposition: he just might leave you out there on one of the many stranded boats!!!!!! _________________ Dave
