Met up with Staticage this morning after stopping off at CVS to buy some Mosquito Repellant. Good thing I did....the little biters were out in force this morning.
Wind was light and bait fish were everywhere, but nothing seemed to be chasing them much. Sure enough, the big boys were not there, or they had lock jaw. Decided to paddle to a distant spot that is
productive more often than not. Found 'Flipper' in the area chasing and consuming mullet. Wish I had my Cam Corder with me. At one point he pushed a school of mullet right at me and then when about 10 yards off, he casually surfaced in the middle of them and calmy snatched one of mullet out of the air. Boy was a real pro.
Moved on down and way a started to fish when I noticed something floating in the water. Moved over and found this fish belly up.
She measured 29 inches on the board. Looked like she hadn't been dead too long as her gills were still fairly red in color. Opened up her mouth and saw that she had choked to death on a mullet. Love that big old yellow mouth.
I squeezed her slightly bloated belly and the foul stench of rotting mullet
issued forth. She had been dead long enough. Put her back in the water and let her float away.
Fishing stayed slow with Staticage managing only a couple of dinks. I did
manage to invite this one home for dinner. All 22 inches of her.

| I found one in Baffin yesterday right @ 30" that had done the same thing, this one had the tail sticking out, shows me that none of us "smart" fishermen are using big enough lures for the big girls! |

good point. You always hear "match the hatch"
There have been thousands of 6-10" mullet in the canals lately... maybe a castnet full of them is in order.
I just picked up one of those huge rapala X-raps after yet another report of tarpon in baffin....I figured my top dogs weren't quite big enough. It wouldn't upset me to hook a few big sows on top before hooking int oa tarpon |

Damn, one less fat sow for me to try to catch. Thanks for the pics LR. Nice catch for you too, that's a good trout. _________________ Save the seagrass......Shoot some ducks |
