will be fishing the estes flats area next thurs and fri. will take the ferry to Port A and fish the surf a little and cook out on the beach. would appreciate any info ...targeting Reds and Trout.
questions? how far down do I drive from the jetties?
Reds and trout are what I'm after, can I fish the first gut area or do I need to wade out farther?
fish on bottom with heavy weight or light as possible?
or just throw plastic or topwaters at dusk time. Thanks in advance for any help. new to the board, heard much about how helpful all are.
Thanks!! |

I go light as possible when targeting slot reds and trout. Spoons, topwaters, and soft plastics are great choices if you want to plug.
All you need to do is wade out to the first gut and find the bait and strucutre.

if you can find working birds within casting distance, try a spoon w/ short wire leader. good for spanish macks. skipjacks are also fun on light tackle. caugh a bunch some years ago with live shrimp under a popping cork. fishbites for whiting and redfish on the bottom. do a search of old surf threads for more options. | Are you coming down here on a bay fishing trip, I mean, are you going to be drifting Estes Flats or that area? |
