took my sister and her fiance out again this morning. I had to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants...got crispy from Saturday braving the gale force winds and managing a few trout that I didn't even feel were picture worthy but wanted to send them home with some fillets. Well hit the water around 7:30 and hit a few spots I have had some luck with and nothing, kept grinding and nothing. Went back to where I started because I just couldn't believe that I couldn't get on some fish and got into them for a little bit, pulled out some good trout 16-18+". As crazy as it might seem to some I left feeding fish to try another spot as I was trying really hard to get my guests on some good redfish. Well that never happened, went over to another spot that used to be money in the bank for reds (though it's a little early in the year for this spot) and found some big poor man's tarpon, fun to fight but that is about all a skipjack is good for to me. Her fiance hooked up with something that broke him off pretty quick but I think he had a bad spot in the line or old line or something because it broke off 20' from the hook. Kept drifting well beyond where I was targeting and found some water that wasn't gin clear, and started catching trout again but no keepers. Then, all of the sudden I hear drag running and I think that my sister is hooked up with a good red, got it to the boat and it had small spots and a big tooth in the upper lip. It was only her second keeper trout ever and it was just over 24" and pretty hefty. I didn't even try to tell her to release it, I would have probably been swimming home if I would have tried. Cleaned all of the fish and I am sending them with her back to Houston on one condition, she has to share with my old man because he couldn't make it this trip. I will have pics up soon, photobucket is being slow tonight. _________________ still chasing my 30" trout |

it was a great time, I don't get to spend a whole bunch of time with her so I really enjoyed the weekend spent fishing with her and her fiance. We all wound up with sunburns, and I usually am the one that doesn't burn. I think I have them hooked on saltwater fishing now though. _________________ still chasing my 30" trout |

Hey mark
nice report brother.
Dont feel bad.. I burned all kinds of gas chasing redfish as well yesterday. I did see quite a few crusing the flats nice ones at that but they where all lock jaw.. I was targeting reds all day and only caught specks. We did get 1 rat red at about 18" but thats it for the day.. The rest where specks.
I dont think I ever met that sister but tell Mom I said Hi. |
