No bull. guy's, tonight around 5:00 pm, we were hanging out near the NPJ and this guy says " there are some huge shrimp on the beach" about 200yds north of us in a nice pinch. To get to the point, we headed down with our cast nets and got well over 100 lbs of the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. I have a cooler full of 8-10" shrimp HUGE. I only wander if they might be sick. We have 2 120 qt. chests full. In 25 years on the beach, I've never seen this. I'm not going to eat them yet, until I see what happens. Tyler, do you have your camera?
later,
Ernie

Tarzan,

I want my cast nests back! ...Lucky b888stard!

My secret drum hole has the the very same shrimp you'ave mentioned....But you cant catch 'em in a net but only watch them flee from a double ringed crabing net...

I do catch a lot of eating size flounder though...And I don't gig 'em!

Last weekend i stopped by red dot for some live shrimp and they also had some huge shrimp that they were peeling about that same size....Fyi Tarzan they were selling them for 9$$ a lb w/the heads!! Man u were definitely at the right place the right time.....I noticed it didnt take very long to try them, i would have done the same thing Laughing

Not to be a bugger on your good fortune but you may have broken the fishing regulations for the recreational fisherman. Check the regulations for yourself.

the regulation states you may take shrimp for bait or consumption. With a valid fishing license, stamps etc, if u dont have that already u probably shouldnt even be posting on the board other than weather, waves, wind and birds. I was relating his catch to the lotto only cuz that would be one of the best days in my life. I also was referring to how much they were going for. If i caught that many shrimp, trust me they would all go for cosumption. The title should read " the best catch of the day ever ".

Hmmm.......if he caught the shrimp on the beach which constitutes the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf shrimping season is closed until July 15th. Read all of the regulations not just the first bit. Try telling the game warden that you didn't read all of the fishing regulations and see what he says. Shrimp are regulated as well as gamefish species. From my read there might be an issue. Just want to make people aware. I am not pointing a finger or calling a game warden, but merely making an observation that many overlook. SM Confused

Well just got off the phone with someone from the TPWD and Game Warden's office. Outside water includes anything from the shoreline to 9 nautical miles out and the Gulf Shrimp Season is CLOSED until July 15th. So I guess 56 of his buddies were in the wrong also. SM Sad

Surfmeister,

Isn't that the COMMERCIAL Shrimping season your referring to?

I believe you can catch shrimp for personal use (bait or consumption) in a small net year round. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i've looked into this before and that was the way I read it.
