Lambert, Matthew Edward 3/26/2006 B8 Funeral notice

I know he was military and was listed in the Corpus Christi Caller Times (sp?) ....

Please, if anyone can help let me see that newspaper....or if you can send a copy of the obituary, or know how I can get a copy to my parents I'd appreciate it......(Surely some of you pack-hounds may have a copy stacked in the corner?)

My dad's ex-wife and he divorced in 1983 and she forbade him to see his son, along with his two daughters... (even under court-ordered visitation rights). I remember Matt, for he wrecked me and my brother's Dr. Pepper Go-Cart! (Remember that, collect the letters off of bottle caps, and if you spell the name "Dr. Pepper" you win a price? Well, my sister was like one in an 11 million chance to win the go-cart...Guess what? She won it, and she was gracious enough to give it to my brother and I for Christmas in 1983....)

Momma just learned this death notice today, and its a very, very sad day.

This was my step-dad's only natural son, and the two were estranged from 1986 until now -- other than an occassional phone call every few years or so... Matthew was born April 1976.

No mention was made of the natural father or Matt's paternal side; but she was eager to post her side of the family!...You know, his funeral services were held a mere 25 miles from me in West Columbia, Texas..........I would have liked to have known when - and how - he died....Gosh, good oh mighty....He had five paternal Uncles from Corpus as well....were any mentioned? nooooooooooo!!!!!..... Again, I thank you...It just burns me up, especially for those of us into genealogy who seek both sides of the story! ......Uggh!

Thank you for the reply, Jerry B....

Judging by the obituary, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. He then went to work in the offshore oil rig industry. He was buried in a national cemetary. Now I am no military buff or historian, but are only those servicemen killed in war only buried in a national cemetary? (I've seen only the Hollywood versions of cemetaries loaded with white crosses.)

I'm wondering if he reinlisted as a reservist of some sort, then died in war, thus giving him the honor of being buring in a national cemetary....Only a bit of research will let me know!

As I understand it, being exmilitary, as long as you served and were discharged horoably you can be in the National Cemetary. I plan on Ft. Sam in SA.

Mike...

My dad called the police, was automatically hooked up with a district attorney, and things are smooth sailing now.... My dad's name is on his son's birth certificate, and he'd give a DNA test anyday..... So my dad will get the cause of death!.

I found my dead step-brother's grave the other day, and I didn't bring him flowers but a breath of fresh air....I told him that I loved him, and for him to fight for our country is the highest reason to live......Now I am a grown man and not wanton to cry.....But I sobbed buckets of puss and puke.....God bless you, Matt.

I apologize if I mix up terms...I mix dad up with step-dad and natural father..... I have little to do with my natural father.....But "dad" is my "dad" even though he came into my life 10 years after my birth....... But Matt is still my step-brother, for better or for worse...

I know how understaffed, yet how over-taxing these bureacrats are.....Let www.corpusfishing rule the city....Johhnny French, Big John, and Bluffer would rue the day! .....

As to my position? Don't go there!....You thought the eye for an eye Old Testament was harsh......

So sorry for your loss.

You might consider writing him an obituary from your side of the family and having it put in the newspaper. Might bring some closure and closeness.
