Another beautiful day on the jetty at Port "A". Got to the end about 9:30 am with a bucket of live shrimp looking for trout. Climbed on my favorite rock and notices some very nervous mullet unsure of which way they should go. About that time a big yellow mouth came up and wolfed one down. I was lucky enough to have some 6" live shrimp in my bucket so I threw one in the middle of the mullet. First fish, 23" trout on the line... The next two cast produced a 21" and 22" trout to add to my daliy bag limit...Things quited down for about 10 minutes and then my float went out of site on a hard run... Pomp #1 was on the line... By 11:45 am my cooler was full of trout and 3 pomps... Used the rest of my shrimp catching 5 sheephead that I released for another day... Great day on the jetty...(The pic's show 12-05-07 but I changed batteries today and missed the date.)

Yep I carry it all... I look like a pack mule sometimes but it's worth it, and it's good exercise. Cool

Had a few near misses but you've got to have good shoes on and watch your step on the rocks. I see somebody fall just about everytime I go out. Never step on a black spot, they are slick... Everything you do, there's an invasion fee, slick rocks, teeth, fins, claws ....

I have been out to the end a few times and used to fish there a lot with my uncle when I was a kid. Very slick and lots of barnacles in the wave zone for sure.

The jetties at Destin pass make port A look downright luxurious. All of the rocks are placed at random and hardly any with a flat side anywhere close to level and if you slip there are many places that you wouldn't stop before going 6-10 feet down in the rocks, with a few broken bones or bad bruises for your trouble. From where you have to park it's about 1.25 miles out to the end of the west jetty, about half or so walking on sand around the edge of the channel and the other half on the rocks. Needless to say there AREN'T many folks fishing the jetties and the end is almost deserted on most days.
