The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are this year's winners. Read them carefully. Each is an artificial word with only one letter altered to form a real word. Some are terrifically innovative:

1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you
realize it was your money to start with.
2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.
3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people, that stops bright
ideas from penetrating. The Bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign
of breaking down in the near future.
4. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject
financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.
5. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.
6. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person
who doesn't get it.
7. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.
8. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.
9. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)
10. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really
bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a
serious bummer.
11. Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.
12. Glibido: All talk and no action.
13. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
14. Arachnoleptic Fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've
accidentally walked through a spider web.
15. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your
bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
16. Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the
fruit you're eating. And the pick of the lot ?
17. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an ****((.

Fat lot of good it did us and Ambrose Bierce.
Quote:
SATIRE, n. An obsolete kind of literary composition in which the vices and follies of the author's enemies were expounded with imperfect tenderness. In this country satire never had more than a sickly and uncertain existence, for the soul of it is wit, wherein we are dolefully deficient, the humor that we mistake for it, like all humor, being tolerant and sympathetic. Moreover, although Americans are "endowed by their Creator" with abundant vice and folly, it is not generally known that these are reprehensible qualities, wherefore the satirist is popularly regarded as a soul-spirited knave, and his ever victim's outcry for codefendants evokes a national assent.

from The Devil's Dictionary - Ambrose Bierce

These are kind of fun. I can't hope to compete with these guys, but I fooled around with it this morning.

TWISHTER - One who wishes they could twist everyones arguments enough that no one would notice the flaws in their own arguements.

IGNORANTS - A petty rant that revels the ranters ignorance.

PEEVWEE - Someone who reveals their own smallness by constantly pushing their own pet peeves.

and, to reuse a Mensa creation with a slightly different twist:

IGNORANUS - An A**hole who feels that they and only they are privy to the TRUTH so they ignore everyone else's point of view.

Sometimes I can understand how Ambrose must have felt trying his poignant humor on the peasants south of the border. Perhaps we can form a DENSA organization for those people that don't have a clue. Something like Darwins' natural selection list for evolutionary dead ends.

Hey Three Leg,
You have that satire nailed don't you? Any one who doesn't believe it just has to read your last post, and then read your "motto" posted below it. Now that is funny Shocked Very Happy

Couldn't have felt any worse than after trying it on his peers north of the border. Still, it might explain why he disappeared when and where he did.

Hey, Big Ed's beginning to resemble his remarks. Where can we find a proctor to test him to qualify as a MD?

Thanks Big Ed, my misguided sense of satire has gotten me in trouble my whole life. I live by the motto that " if you can't be well liked , be well hated" . As for my quote, inferiority is a perception , whereas stupidity is a profession , big difference.

No. Is that the bank in the building where Shexnailder's office was at the SH 361/Park Road 22 intersection?
