Just wondering if you yakked nearshore, caught a load of fish, etc. Post up! Lets hear it..

Well it goes like this.......

Whiting, Pampano, Blue Crabs,Tigers and Bears oh my! Oh, and RAIN!

Arrived at the 6mm to find a camp already setup (4 Trucks with yaks), but found a great place to camp. The beach was really flat and beach structure was present. Water clarity could not have been better. Water was 82 degrees. No weed! Paddled out long lines and fish the first gut.

The first gut was deep 4-5' and produced whiting of all sizes, biggest was about 17"! Fished w/the infamous 2/1 Custom (Built by Outlaw Kustom Rods) Breakaway 13.2 to cast to the 3rd bar and the Pompano were there. The tide was out and I caught 3 dinner plate size back to back, using a Pompano rigs that Charlie Golla showed me how to make. I probably could have caught more, but I was not fast enough to cast out back to back. The Pompano hit my peeled shrimp as soon as they hit the water. I did not even have time to put the rod in the rod holder, much less reel in the slack from my cast. In the group I was with, no one could cast as far out as I could and the Pompano were really far out (not bragging). My casting this weekend with that rod and 525mag Penn was the best I ever cast with that rod! Well the Pompano bite stopped and did not last long and did feel like chasing them down the beach.

I grabbed the binos from the trooper to check out the traffic on the gas well and saw the guys that were parked next to our camp site and they looked busy. I decided to wait them out and they came in around 3 o'clock with a report of only 1 keeper Lane Snapper. Also, reporting a strong current around the rig that kept them paddling all day. I was glad I did not go out after that report. They left and did not come back.

So....knowing that I rigged up the yaks and the bro to paddle to deep water in search of kings or spanish. No takers. Picked up a Shark on a drift with a homemade down rigger leader setup of which I later burried the hook from that rig in my right foot! Ouch! The hook came out and the foot was sooo tender. Back to the shark. The shark was small and had a very pointy nose. No ID. The shark was not happy to see me so was not going to bring him up onto the yak with me so the bro and I paddled back to shore dragging the shark back to the beach where all the kids could check it out. The shark was release to get bigger and haunt someone else. Cool

to Michelle (Fishmicki) for lending me her Malibu Two Yak to share with my family. That is one awesome yak, very fast and stable. I did flip it in calm water, don't know how? It just happened. Shocked

The kids stayed up late beach combing with a lantern and flash lights and when awoke in the morning found 7 blue crabs in the Ice chest.

Lots of bait in the water. We even found Ballyhoo! Strange. I have never seen Ballyhoo there. Fished really hard with everything I had. No Reds or Trout to be caught. Early in the morning I could see what I thought was Trout, but turned out to be Ladyfish. They were thick.

We got rained on Sunday morning real bad. Monday am rain scared us off the beach with lightning present. We had a kite up all weekend and on Monday when bringing it in the line seemed to have a charge to it Shocked

All in all, Great weekend to be on the beach with family and friends

26 Whiting kept
3 Pompano kept (lots of small ones released)
7 Blue Crabs
3 Cases Bud lite killed
1 Large bottle of Captain Morgans Spiced Rum killed
3 Cuban Cigars Smoked!

wow, what a report. Glad the Malibu II worked for you guys-that's a nice machine. It sounds like you fully enjoyed the weekend. Sucks packing up in the rain though. Pictures? loved to see 'em.
