I will start with the fishing report for last night. Fishing was great for trout using live bait. Very few people on the pier; perhaps the calm before the storm.

Also, the meeting yesterday went very well with several expecting a hollering and yelling match which was not to be found. The system works when people are civil on both sides.

I have been hard on Mr. Pettis and for good reason, lack of mainteance. After viewing pier yesterday before meeting, I was impressed with its condition. All lights working, broken railing replaced, trash cans empty, bathrooms clean, etc. One could not have asked for much more. Don't fret, I let Mr. Pettis know things were much better and much appreciated. If you are a regular to the pier and witness good situation, let him know, 949-8121.

Much to my surprise, first time I have seen a constable on the pier in five years. He walked the entire pier. He told me he would inform graveyard shift to frequent the pier, but if they were busy they may not be able to walk entire pier. This is not exactly what I wanted to hear, but it is a start. We discussed that just the uncertainty of appearing but the certainity of at least appearing from time to time would deter a lot of the bad behavior. Also, city cops were patrolling heavily in their vehicles.

For those who think this is a bunch of whiners and complainers, what do you do when a paying customer enters the gate and an unpaying punk runs through the gate, runs over the paying customer, and darts to the end of the pier to plow off into the deep blue? If this was my momma paying, I would be mad, and if it were your momma, the same would be true.

You got to be a little patient, but the trout are in there, and with the right bait, you can catch your limit. It can take anywhere from an hour to 3 hours for a limit depending on time and conditions.

Have a great weekend and be careful!!!

Thanks and it doesn't hurt to call someone like Mr. Pettis to tell them they are doing a GOOD job.

Thanks, Gib!

The pier is in better shape. I saw them do a trash run this morning on foot picking up trash and generally cleaning up the pier. Also when I left a police truck was in the lot and it looked like he might be getting out to take a stroll. Weed is bad for surf and bottom fisherman. Plenty of small smacs on small spoons. Not very many keepers. I free lined some live large watermelon shad for a while trying to find a kingfish. No takers.

Glad to here such a positive report. Patricia and I will be there a week from Mondsy and stay until Friday. I hope to meet some of you that have helped on getting things done on BHP. Depending on the tides we will probably fish at night for specks and redfish. I build custom rods and we should not be hard to spot. My sife is recovering from cancer and has no hair and i am a littl short fat man. I will have a couple of 10' Harringtos for sale if anyone is interested a 542 & 552.

Hope to you when we get there.

Paul

Would it be proper to list his phone number here?
I was impressed today with the conditions at BHP and also feel good reports should be voiced.

Trash Heap, no I did not see him yesterday evening, perhaps he had his fill already.

Willee, look in my post and Mr. Pettis phone number (office) is given.

Yes, everyone please call and say thank you. A thank you can go a very long way.

In addition, I would assume, per comments stated, that Mr. Pettis may have taken a little heat and rightfully so, but he has stepped up to the plate, and this is all we can ask of anyone.

Totally agree....I often call to give GOOD JOB reports to whoever does a good job...always surprises me to hear "wow, that's a first...thanks" but a compliment does go a long way.
