Spring winds are keeping the bay waters stacked up and that means visible redfish are almost non-existent along the shorelines. It doesn't stop me from looking, but the fish seem to be doing something else lately. So to improvise I drag paddle tails behind while I am watching shorelines. Saturday I paddled ten miles along the lower Aransas river trolling while hoping to see reds feeding. Reds were a complete no-show, but fourteen trout and a big aggressive gafftop allowed me to take home fillets. The winds ensured that I got my exercise, so I went home happy.

My son enjoys eating freshwater catfish, and to us these taste the same. The key is to not be stingy when getting the fillets - remove that wide streak of red meat with the skin. If you get the red off, it's pretty good stuff. |

CC: I heard the Bayside Ramp opened. Is it usable at the current water levels?

| I don't use that ramp, but I did see several boats coming and going there and didn't notice anyone having issues. |
