Winds kept me from looking towards the water yesterday but mid-morning my son called me away from the office to help him rescue a swarm of bees from a local resident who needed them removed. We scooped up as many of the bees as we could, but there were lots of them in small spaces where we couldn't get to them easily. We left the box entrance open for the rest to join in their own time. I went back to the office and a full afternoon of meetings, and after dark we returned to see if they had followed our suggestion. Thankfully the entire swarm was in the box and they have been moved to my back yard so they can establish themselves under a watchful eye. Woohoo! We enjoy helping bees - especially when it might lead to more honey in our future. Razz

That's really cool. I have a close friend that's into bees and honey and he really enjoys it. It's a lot of work.

Bees are really interesting to work around. Not the brightest individuals, but as a group they are brilliant and I love the smell and energy of a working bee hive.

Woohoo! We got another call today for a swarm. When we arrived it became clear that this wasn't a swarm but a small established open-air hive. We will come back after dark when the bees are all home to remove these. One more group of bees we can provide a safe place to grow.

What a swarm season! It's raining bees and our little operation continues to grow. We have four swarms in the back yard that are growing, and four more out at the property now. One of the back yard groups seems to have lost their queen and they're struggling to produce new worker bees, but the others are hard at work forging new lives.

Helping my son is an enjoyable experience, but at some point soon I am going to need some real sleep. We got home last night at midnight after removing yet another hive and taking it to the property. Below is a short video of removing the bee swarm from a fence yesterday.
