I'm sure you have the right to make your bid. However, a street or right of way is not normally put on the market, but is subject to an abutting land owner asking to purchase it, as has happened in this case. The questions I and others should have is what is the resulting configuration of streets and access going to look like, and how is the right of way which is the subject of the offer to purchase going to be used? Is it going to be torn up and redeveloped(?), what is the new end of Laguna Shores going to look like(?), is Martha going to serve as the primary access to the Bluff Landing's business activities(?), are utility easments in the subject right of way which service the homes on Martha(?), what will the resulting development within the land ownership of Bluff Landings look like and where will the access points be? I'm sure there are many other questions to be answered, but this is a start, due to the limited information being given to the public at this time.

I contacted district 4 councilman Greg Smith and this was his reply.

Your latest post is good news Tom, so I guess Bluff's Landing is just fishing? No pun intended! Laughing
I certainly think they should maintain the road in front of the ramp, and I'm adamantly against them buying a portion of Laguna Shores Road, due to how it may affect Martha and the homes thereon.

I emailed Greg Smith again and asked how we can find out what their plans are and how it would affect the residents of Martha drive and I had no response so far.

Maybe the rest of the city staff deliberately did not tell Greg Smith, as he is a lame duck, and by the time this thing happens (or not), he will be out of office. Sets a bad precedent, as who else wants to but a street?

One thought was that maybe the land under those sections of streets were still owned by the landowner, but it was an easement for the road (when it was a county road), and when the area was annexed by the city, it became a city road (without proper transfer of the easement). Just a possibility, not a justification, especially since the land has changed hands over the years, and that access now has "traditional use" by the public.

I smell a large expansion of BL, they've been pushing this way slowly since they bought it, trying to run out the locals.

I think that's the idea, but that's a horrible business plan...the locals are the only thing that keeps them going during the winter....

they probably want to keep people like me from using the boat ramp and parking in front of Zia's house and not giving them $40 for overnight parking like I did this past weekend (thanks Zia!)

No telling how much the boat lift slips are now, but they used to be about $350/month (tax deductible for guides, so kinda OK for them).

I've heard $500 a month

Next they will be asking the wind (sail) surfers to pay to play,

they already have been charging them $10 to use the "launch" over there...

and then kick SeaTow to the curb.

Sea Tow pays for their slips, and parking the airboat in the parking lot...

You're more than welcome becky. I hope this doesn't become a fight to maintain the somewhat serenity of here in my house. Wonder if they are just trying to buy everything in the neighborhood and take over the whole end of the bluff

I see deep pockets, condos, perhaps a highrise, nice motel, etc in your future.

Slightly right of the topic, but not far off. I like launching at Bluff's for convenience's sake instead of dragging over the causeway, but the 20-dollar launch fee has me making the drive (while only adding maybe 10 minutes) more frequently, as I'm sure it has done with many other customers. In seeking alternatives, I've always been equal parts curious and skeptical of the boat launch at the end of Yorktown and Laguna, advertising an open ramp but have never seen or heard of anyone sliding in there. Can anyone speak to the functionality of that ramp?

Well, zia posted his exchange with the councilman including the response. Care to share your exchange? What was your issue or question? How did he sidestep you?

I also found out that the marina just bought another house that was for sale here on Martha drive. Looks like they're trying to buy every property available.

Well, if they are spending tax payer money on an appraisal there must already be some strong consideration of it. Please let us know if or when this is being addressed by the city council. Thanks for the update Tom.
