My neighbor called me from the beach this morning and he said that the water was brown and cold. Does anybody know if there's an upwelling going on right now?[/u]

It took a turn for the worse the other day, and is pretty brown out past the third bar. The temps are not especially cold, at least from what the Port A NOAA station is reporting. The low temps are down to 84 or 85, so not that cold.

dangit! I looked last week, and it wasn't there....but I just looked, and sure enough, it's finally rearing it's ugly head this year...

happens every year when the nearshore finally changes direction...this is by and far the latest I've ever seen it...

A friend of mine was out surfing and he said that the first gut was cold the second gut was warmer and the third gut was cold again so the thermal currents were weird.

Yes, its been around most of the summer in some places but finally took over this past weekend. There is still a lot of standing water on the island from all the rain earlier this summer so this could last for a while. Jeff Wolda

At lunch today, the water took a decidedly turn for the better! Just some streaks of brown in the first & second gut. Looks 100% better, so don't cancel those plans just yet!

I'll be watching. I'm heading to the lease tomorrow and might make a beach run next week sometime.

Was there the last two days, around 18 on Thursday, around 13 on friday. Water was probably a 2/10 , but you could see the deep green colored water a couple hundred yards out. My son, grandson and I had a blast catch small sharks, today a 26 inch redfish joined the fun, so that was cool. Pony mullet in the surf, skip jacks enough for bait, and pelicans were working off and on all up and down.

Whether it was improving today (Friday 13) as cs mentioned, quite possible, we were noticing a pick up in what we thought were red fish bites early afternoon, and then a couple dolphin came in and the bite went pretty quiet.

Wind was light, horse flies were vicious - but not around all the time, the clouds, the storm that came in, were awesome.

On Dawn Patrol today, the water was back to normal. Only hiccup was the last high tide brought in tons of tar, but it was old and not real sticky. 2 rows at 2 feet, and a weird east wind?!?! For August, who knew?

Hmmmmm I'm liking it! I have to do some mowing and some MLD deer counts first but if things still look good Tuesday I'm gonna head that way!

Find any beans?
