The rain bands and storm surge are always worst east of the eye, because they're wind-driven.
We have a big group kayak trip planned for AP later this week (planned weeks ago), and have been following Beta, gauges, and weather closely.
AP weather looks awesome.
The storm tide at AP peaked at 3' this morning (+1' harmonic), and has already dropped back to 2' storm tide (above harmonic) this afternoon. Beating NW wind tomorrow and Wed should push a lot of water from the bays. Looks like we hit it just right.
That doesn't help Galveston, which will get the worst of it tomorrow...

It seemed like it took awhile for the storm surge from Hanna to recede here in the Upper Laguna. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

If you have the prevailing SE, it pushes water into the bays.
I've seen amazing tide flows out of the bay from beating NW wind.
Here, paddling Pelone Is. channel, an oyster reef forms a dam holding back a foot of water 20 hours into a beating NNW - this also should be a high April tide (harmonic).
I'll post a report around Monday.
editing, the storm tide at AP is down to 1.4' above harmonic this morning - Beta came ashore at Indianola last night. |

It's too soon. I'm still mourning Bob Hall.
Looks like the same kind of damage. Powerful high surge causes the support structure of the end to fail. At least they got good video of it. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
