Squidders are reels I've been using since the early 70's both for surf and offshore fishing, just your basic non-levelwind reel with 25lb test and a decent drag. I'm down to my last one thanks to a worthless thief.

Penn discontinued the model about 10 years ago and i'm not having any luck in pawn shops. Ebay is out since I prefer to look at a reel before buying it. Roy's used to have them in the used case once in a while but not anymore.

So, what do you folks consider a direct replacement for the Penn 140? Does not actually have to be a Penn model, I was looking at some of the Abu Garcia baitcasters but they all have levelwind.

John, Abu Garcia makes their current CT non-level wind reel in 2 sizes, 6500 and 7000.

Looks like only the 6500 is in stock, and on sale.

Fisherman's Place on Ayers has a couple of 140 squidders rebuilt for sale. Was just there and saw the reels.

Daiwa Sealine is about the best surf casting reel for the money.

Quite a few Squidders to pick from on Ebay.
Some appear to be in great shape.

DANG! Just got rid of a Squidder that I purchased years ago and never used - still in the box. Also had 3 or 4 I wasn't using so I sent them to Big Lou...
BIG Lou Mceachern near Winny, TX...
He's the man who cast over the Houston Astrodome years ago
Nice guy...let me know if you cannot find his number...

I replaced my squidders with Penn 525's 15 years ago then moved up to Penn Fathm 2 with magnetic control. Both are killer reels but NO Penn reels have a loud enough clickers!

I like Penn GS series. I have 525 through 555. I would say the 535 would be about equivalent to the Sqidder. Really casts well!!
