And the scary part is that as far as hurricanes go, Hanna was a relatively minor Cat 1. Heavenly help you all if a big one comes. How many years has it been since Corpus had been hit??

Me to drift by my duck blind over by the power plant today here's a picture of it.
If you can't see it, neither could I. It's totally gone. Couldn't even see any parts of it up on the shore |

| If anyone has photos of the Rocky Slough area or South of there it would be appreciated if you would post them. I have a friend with a cabin at the South end of Rocky Slough who is in Utah at this time and I'm sure he would appreciate knowing more about the area until he can get back here. |

I rode out Hurricane Allen inside the brig on NAS CC (it's a long story. ), but... everyone is correct. Hanna was nothing more than a low end Tropical Storm. Having been through the eye wall of a super-typhoon when I was a kid in Guam (175+ MPH sustained winds), don't strut around saying "I've been through a Hurricane (even if it was Harvey a few years ago....). Trust me, it sucks.

| We went Down south yesterday as far as mile marker four in the land cut.Sorry I did not take any photos but a lot of damage at the south end of Rocky slough and definitely in the land cut. The further south you went the worse it looked. Most docis are significantly damaged. Some roofs ripped off. A few cabins destroyed but they look like old not well-built cabins. |

I wonder what happens to the leases on cabin sites in the Laguna if the people holding them cannot afford to rebuild their cabin?? Do they go up for auction or just disappear??
An old, but trailerable pontoon boat that could have a modular cabin that could be easily assembled and disassembled that could be towed and anchored along one of the crash channels for a several week stay would seem to me to be the ticket. Walls could be bolted together and a roof lifted on and off in sections. Build it all out of 2x2 or 2x3 with styrofoam insulation and quarter inch plywood for sheathing
Here in Arkansas, people do much the same thing by pitching tents on an old pontoon on Bull Shoals or Norfork Lakes. Spend your two weeks vacation "water camping".

Cabins don't have leases per say. You need to hold a permit. There are different regulations for a floating cabin (TPW), fixed cabin over ground and fixed cabin over water (GLO). The permits are very valuable and have a market. Adding an outboard motor to a floating cabin does not change the need to have a permit. You can always rebuild within regulations as long as you keep your permit current. _________________ kick your shoes off and cast a line |

I don't want to leave it there permanently, just for a several weeks time while I'm in it on vacation. The reason for the "Cabin" part to be in panels would be to be able to disassemble it, tie the panels down and haul the whole shebang to a storage lot or to home. Is there a rule I can't camp out on my own vessel in state waters?? Its the best of all worlds, if the fishing sucks where it is today, just move it somewhere else. I guess I would have to fly proper anchor lights to be legal. _________________ Gary J

If you are not willing to inquire of the authorities such as TP&WL you may inadvertently learn what the rules are. |

The key will be keeping your interests mobile. But, what do I know? I'm just some guy on the internet. _________________ kick your shoes off and cast a line |

Are you saying that if I had a houseboat on the Laguna I couldn't anchor in one place for an extended (10 days - 2 weeks) period of time. Our lakes here in Arkansas and in Missouri are all Federal U.S. Corps of Engineers lakes and I know for certain I can do the same anywhere it is legal to go on these lakes. Obviously not in channels, but coves - no problem. _________________ Gary J

| Nope you sure cant. You have the be registered as Floating cabin and can only be anchored at your approved GPS coordinates. Now if this is a mobile style houseboat, that is a slight bit different, and I don't know the exact details there on maximum timeframe. The state is pretty strict on both the Floaters and on the fixed cabins. Our cabin is inspected every 5 years, measured out and picture kept to make sure we have not added to our footprint at all without state approval. |
