Couldn't head to New Mexico the summer like I've done for the last 23 years due to Covid. Here's what I did on this date last year.

Can't get too much more social distancing that what I was experienced there. Nobody around as far as you can see. tranquil Waters it's almost mesmerizing floating a fly past the fish and having them take it. So instead, today I had a fish in ugly Brown water and catch one of these guys. I brought it home and released in my canal hopefully I can catch it on ultralight sometime

How beautiful! I can't imagine Covid19 keeping you here, because the rate of infection is increasing at an increasing rate in CC, but I doubt there?

Soon the other states won't let Texans travel into their state due to such a high rate of Covid-19... maybe...if you quarantine for 14 days...

Remember what Texas did to travelers from Louisiana?

Like a boiling frog, it may be hard to get out now

At the time we were going to leave we would have to have driven straight through for 14 hours. There's no way my wife can handle that anymore. Motels were not allowing out-of-state Texans to stay at the motels.

Hey Zia, this evening we just got home from several days of family vacation in Pagosa Springs. Beautiful county up that way, from Roswell to Santa Fe (counted pronghorn on this stretch to pass the time), Chama, Chromo and of course Pagosa.

Brought home a couple limits of those sweet water trout, too!

We are always on the lookout for pronghorns in that area as well. yep that's the route we take up to our place. We head north just before you reach Abiquiu. Wish I was there now.

Reminds me of my summers in Colorado as a kid. I'd go back, just wouldn't live there (except for the legalized "organic substance" Laughing ). We used conventional rods and reels for catcing rainbows though, with salmon eggs for bait. First time I saw that I nearly passed out. But I did learn the basics of fly fishing later in life in high school when I earned my Master Angler certificate from TPWD. I need to get back into it. Days like today are perfect for tying flys.

I always get lost in trout stream daydreams, hell last night I was tying copper johns just for the hell of it. There is a sense of peace that a trout stream can give you. I miss it at times.
However the bow of a poling skiff at sunrise on a calm morning with herons silently stalking the same flat you're gliding over offers another sense of peace not unlike a remote trout stream in Northern Idaho or swinging flies to steelhead in a deep pool.
I love them both, just gotta keep your sense of sanity where ever you are now. Hopefully next year you can make it back out to NM.
