Going stir crazy here in Austin and thinking
about throwing a tent and a few surf rods in the truck and heading to PINS. What are conditions like down there? Are baitshops essential businesses? Thanks for any input . Rolling Eyes

PINS is open. All they say is if you camp don't be by other campers. Winds are supposed to be gusting to 40 45 miles an hour the next two days and then the front comes through and settles down. Maybe CS or Jeff will have report on what water conditions look like

Thanks. Probably going to drive down early Saturday and give it a shot. If you see a white and silver Ram on the beach and a guy throwing a cast net poorly, stop and say hi (from a safe distance, of course).

This is going to be an unpopular reply.

Austin is now in a "stay at home" order as is Corpus Christi/Nueces county. Austin/Travis county is one of the "hot spots" in the state.

Any place you stop to pump gas, buy bait/food/ice, etc, there is a possibility of leaving germs behind on the surfaces for others to get..or the money you hand to someone for bait, that is then handed to someone local. Even with no symptoms, a person may be infected and capable of spreading germs.

Do you really want to risk infecting members of this forum who live in CC just because you want to go fishing?

I guess you're right. I'll probably just try to finish building my skiff in hopes of better days.

How about buy your grocerys in austin. Bring a cast net and buy some of the blue bags of frozen shrimp at walmart while your buying groceries. Wear some some gloves while you gas up before you get to PINS. Hit the sand and enjoy the solitude, escape the madness, and live your life! I bet the residents of CC will survive!

^^^^^ What he said! Sage advice from a wise fellow.

Social Distancing, at it's finest. I'd pay attention to the winds. Two fronts are in the forecast. Tides should be your friend, just camp up high, and make sure your vehicle can take some soft sand, should you have to move.

The water is in good shape, the 'weed' has subsided, the migration of Spring birds is well underway, and the dunes are blooming flowers - What's not to like? Cast net - check, rod&reel - check, food&water - check, shelter - check. No news coverage - EVEN BETTER!

Good luck if you decide to come down.

Welp.....PINS is closed to overnight camping, day use only. Seems kind of dumb but made my choice for me at least.

Well fiddlesticks. I just saw that, so disregard my 'BRILLIANT' analysis from earlier.

Too bad about PINS. I hope they don't keep me out of my boat in the Laguna.
