Bought a falcon rod, broke within the first few trips, went to Roy's and was told that I should contact the manufacturer. I dont remember this encounter being unfriendly, or rude in any way but got the impression they didnt like to do returns, but in all honesty, who does? I contacted falcon, got a replacement. Took the rod out, let a buddy use it, snapped within the first 5 casts. Contacted falcon, got another replacement of a different model this time (upgrade). Took it down the beach, a buddy slammed it in the tailgate, called falcon, even though it was clearly not their fault, got a replacement that has worked good since. I suggest contacting the manufacturer, it was easy, cheap, and effective.
I will say this, you can shop at academy or d ic k s sporting goods all you want, but good luck getting them to carry what you want or need on a regular basis. In my opinion, the only store that even comes close to Roy's in this area is Tackle Town in Rockport. You can find what you want, when you go to get it 99.9% of the time. I have not had a bad encounter with any of their staff even when they've been slammed and its 5 minutes til close (or after close... ). I hope you give them another chance and maybe you will see why the rest of us think so highly of them. |
Very well said. |

I normally don't get into this kind of bull honkey, but as a small business owner myself, this kind of online bullying...which is all it is...is completely faceless, cowardly, and uncalled for. Ive been hitting Roy's for 25 years every time I go down island. There is no shop IN TEXAS that provides more service, care and expertise. Well, except maybe, as an equal in terms of service and meeting customer needs, Nick. If you want to complain, go talk to someone face to face. Don't even TRY to mess with their business by being a jerk online. And if you don't get the answer or response you want face to face the first TEN times, go back again. FACE TO FACE. This thread not only needs to be locked, but deleted for what it is: a joke. _________________ Fish ON! |

Situational awareness will save you a lot of headaches or response posts.

| Actually most of the fishing equipment I own came from there. Something to think about though. How great and helpful is someone when you are giving them money as opposed to when you actually want something from them. Also lets say I went there and had good service 20 times. Why should it be ok to not get good service? I would love to hear some stories of their customer service on returns except send it back to the company that made it. Is that really customer service and standing behind what you sell? |

Roy's is definitely the place to go and I hope my post didn't suggest otherwise. However, i dont have a problem with someone voicing their opinion or experiences on an online forum, especially in this day and age of everything online. It is what it is. And a good business like Roy's, as clearly seen in this post, has many more people vouching for them than against. This post didnt do anyone any harm. You hear about the ones that have problems, not the hundreds, even thousands that go through there all the time and always get excellent service. Nothing to lock up a thread about, if anything, someone reading this will probably take note of all the good things said rather than the one complaint. As one raised by a self employed father and spent most of my adult years self employed, my experience is some people are not looking for a solution, they just want to complain. The OP in this case is determined to continue to complain, so I hope Tyler lets him exhaust himself! I just wish he had the guts to identify himself. We know who Roy's is, but we don't know who this creature is, so we can stay clear. Thank goodness he is from Kingsville, so he's not one of our neighbors! |

I'll let you know, my wife bought a junior sized buff instead of an adult. Its gonna be no problem to exchange it. It's also never been used and can go right back on the shelf unlike an item like a broken fishing rod.
You cant expect them to function with the BS a huge company deals with. Example..... home depot. Once opened a "new" weedeater only to find an old weedeater caked in grass. Lowes, opened a box and had missing parts that had been robbed from the box. Walmart, I know you've seen the carts and carts of returns piled up there... Academy, just count the number of returned fishing rods next time. You're gonna tell me those are all manufacturer defects.... please. Im sure these large companies have that built.into their budget, while a small business will take a lot larger hit in comparison. So in my opinion, referring you to the manufacturer is sound advice and allows Roy's to continue to stock the amount of stuff that they do. If you dont believe it, walk down the barren aisles at academy. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| When I first started shopping at Roy's a few years ago, I thought their customer service was not very good. Then the more I shopped there, I realized that their customer service is excellent. They always helped me and answered my questions. They may not seem friendly but they've never been rude. Sure some of the guys may seem rough around the edges, but that's just who they are. Nothing wrong with that. IMO there's a difference between good customer service and friendliness. Roy's is now the store I buy most of my fishing gear. |

Don't really give a flip. Glue the end back on and continue. I've been going to Roy's back before I even had a driver's license and will continue to do so. |

Guess this board still hasn't changed. A person can't give their negative opinion about a place without being attacked.
I can fully understand them sending you to the manufacturer to handle the warranty issue. Being rude however, that's poor customer service no matter where it is. If everyone can post about how great, helpful and friendly they are, then this person can post about their negative experience as well. |
