Started early leaving an empty ramp at about 5 am headed south before the sun came up in time to hit our spot right as the sun was coming up.
Started kind of slow but eventually found the fish.
We left the fish biting with double limits and decided to make our way back. I decided to run shallow to avoid the chop in the ICW which turned out to be a mistake. Turns out things get REALLY shallow quick on a super low tide and before you know it I was passed the point of no return...
(Edited to remove incriminating photo... thanks CS!)
So 5 hours later, 2 boats, 5 friends, my wife and 4 pieces of PVC pipe and we had her floating. Now i'm sore in places I didn't know I could be sore in. Just another hard lessened learned but I'm thankful for friends that care enough about me to come get me even when I did something stupid and a wife that wasn't too harsh on me and even came to help push it out. Enjoy! _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back.

The Good and The Bad.... Yin and Yang. Beauty double limits though; and Good On Ya Mates and the Wife-Unit for helping you out. August, pushing a stuck boat out, been there = No Fun.
[A Side Note: I'd ditch the last 'incriminating' photo, but that's just me]

Thanks for the heads up CS! It really was an accident though just inexperience I guess. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

No worries. We've all been there. Mine was trying to skirt the western shoreline of the Laguna south of Mansfield, headed towards the mouth of the Arroyo Colorado. It got WAY shallow, WAY fast!!!!! A white knuckle moment, for sure, especially on full plane in a Majek Redfish Line; which can run SHALLOW anyways
I only brought up the 'photo in question' because that fresh scar led right to your boat, and well, that's not something I would broadcast (accident or not) - even if I've done it more than a time or two myself..... |

| I turned into Rattlesnake Bay last fall thinking I was skirting Peyton Bay into Arroyo Colorado - that didn't last long |

I know what ya mean! There was actually a few scars in the exact same area. The mullet were using them like a super highway to get to deeper water. Kinda cool to see.
Thanks for not being too harsh on me _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Been there and done that getting out of the Port of Brownsville in Skipper's Haynie. Luckily the backwash of a tanker saved us after the initial flow of water didn't get us off that one last flat where you turn left towards the Causeway. LOL I was up front and said why is it all sandy here? And then.....................Stopped!

Thanks! I was initially kinda embarrassed, but the more I tell people what happened the more I see that sometimes it just happens, even to the best of us. I think I learned some valuable lessons and hopefully it wont happen to me again. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Where I was at I had very very limited service so was only able to manage a text to my wife to get me help with coordinates off of my GPS. I got intermittent texts back saying SeaTow was hours out because they were getting a sailboat off the rocks downtown and one boat after that before they could get to me. So my wife gathered my friends and they all came to the rescue. My TowboatUS had just expired 2 or 3 days ago... I'll be renewing or getting seatow. If I had it I would have just waited it out. Hope all went well with your adventure. Were you stuck the same day? _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

now I get to tell on my dad - twice, one night drove his boat onto Padre island thinking the lights ahead were the dock he was supposed to be heading; a second time on Mud Island (I wasn't there either time, but believe the second time was no wind).
Kind of a third time with my nephew, they went wade fishing at Mansfield to return and find the boat beached by low tide. A passing angel of mercy, apparently strong as a horse, help them lift the boat back to water. |

| Safe track on the gps keeps me out of trouble. But when I was younger and did not have the funds for that....been pretty stuck. Were those reds schooled up or just in pods? Headed south today to fish ULM Baffin and Landcut and where ever the fish lead us for 4 days. I found big schools of drum with a few reds on the perimeter but no schools of reds where I normally find them...on a trip 10 days ago. |
