Howdy everybody, heard some folks were looking for me and that it wasn't the law, which is always a good thing, right? Laughing

I quit my job a while back and somehow connived myself onto the biggest boats on the river at another outfit, got a raise, and got enough tow to make me cry uncle every single watch, every day. I always wanted to strap up and man up to a big 30 barge tow and here it is. Been training real hard the last year now and still have a long ways to go and a lot to learn, but boy the rush I get from manhandling this much weight with a 180 ft long Kort Nozzle boat is like no other.

You can see clouds run across the top of that sucker, this one is only 1,000 ft long and 30 barges but we usually run 1,400 feet long northbound. This one is 210 feet wide.

Here's a 25 barge tow southbound.

30 barge tow southbound.

We've been running from St Paul, Minnesota to the Gulf down New Orleans.

The boats are all American warhorses from days of old, with a lot of power, a minimum of 7,000 horsepower.

Get three meals a day with a cook on these ones, it's like when I used to sail offshore, I like it.

STRAPPED UP, FACED UP, LACED UP AND READY TO ROCK N ROLL!

Most importantly, the kids are doing awesome, all the bills are paid, and the pantry is full. These two are my absolute heart...

Been busy every time home doing charters, and that's been a real eye opening experience. Boy do I love having folks to harass and tell stories to all day after years of fishing alone. Laughing

I hate guides (I know right??) they know it all and ruin a good fishing hole for everyone else half the time just so they can make a few bucks, so sorry for the pics, but here's just a few.

The important thing is I've been able to share the love of Padre to quite a few folks, some of whom don't know how much they need Padre, and some who absolutely do. There's been an (unnamed prioson gang) charter (I had no idea beforehand), a fellow who meowed like a cat all day long (no seriously, all day....) because he caught a hardhead, even two old guys who threw eachothers food in the fire and had a roll around on the ground fight down at the 53 on an overnight shark trip. I could tell stories upon stories...but overall there are a lot of good folks out there just looking for happiness, a little fun, and memories just like we all do.

Anyways ya'll take real good care and I'm about half packed for a personal few days trip, so maybe I can get some pics with this replacement camera and writeup some gibberish after a while. Sure know how to do that. Laughing

Oh-----before I forget. There's an old timer down at the 3 mile marker. He's a vet and I've been taking him food and ice and whatnot when I go by. He doesn't hardly have much, and if ya'll can spare anything or just want to pay him company tell him Colin with the big red truck sent ya and take care of him. We're losing our old timers and I for one ain't never felt so alone as some days with our old time beach lure crowd missing and gone...

Thanks and God Bless.

dang that's some cargo, slightly bigger than they push down the ICW around the laguna Laughing

Is the old timer in a tan van? I've seen him if so, I'll drop of some goods to him on the way out one day if he is still there.

Hiya Robert, sorry a description would have been helpful. He is in a tan rv camper with an old Chevy truck to pull it. Cannot miss him. Thanks.

Reminds me of an interview that Billy gave years back, maybe in the caller, where he talks of the time he was basically living on the beach after he came back from Nam and people would come down the beach and bring him ice and supplies, good folks taking care of each other, present time included.

Sorry Donnie, I am sitting on 5 baits around the 5, I gave him a 5# block of ice because his fridge broke, first. I started off telling him he is the first old timer I did not know, so what could I do for him. I have taken him breakfast and given him shrimp to fish with, but they were off my boat, and he ate them. I do not blame him, they were big. He has been living on the beach since April, started in Louisiana. I think his wife passed but I am not sure. He is currently at the 6. I would suggest company and ice and maybe a lil bit of food.

Glad to hear your doing good! Hard to believe those baby's are growing up so fast!

I should be down soon and will definately stop and see the old timer if he is there. I'm not much of a people person but I love the stories those old guys tell!

Can't wait to see more of your adventures!

I was hoping my post would bring you out of the woods, or should I say cabin!
I seem to recall your daughter's name is Elizabeth, and the boy's name is ?
By the way, your new responsibility reminds me of an old saying "no step for a stepper"! Glad to see you prospering Colin, and stay safe.

If you want to find the white bays, you gotta get em yourself (insert crazy dude with a net off an old "refurbished" fiberglass outboard picture here....). Two of those bay whites would feed any grown man. Especially this time of year. But as I said, thumbs up, tight lines...
